The rapid development of tire industry and the accelerated update rate of tire prompt the tire mold manufacturing enterprises improving design method,shortening cycle generation and improving design efficiency.Tire mold design mainly includes three parts: the mold frame design,the design of electrode,which is used for manufacturing tire pattern,and the design of characters.Each design part makes up about a third of the design cycle time.The characters design is complex,and it mainly reflects in:(1)the diversity of the characters design style;(2)the characters from different customers(tire enterprises),which express the same content,own different fonts and font sizes;(3)the characters are composed of a variety of entity objects,not only letters,but also character graphics,which consist of straight line,arc and so on,besides include a variety of filling pattern.The article summarizes the design content of tire mold characters.The design content mainly includes: the curve contour extraction from characters,the spacing adjustment of characters,the position adjustment of characters,the redesign of character filling and character inspection.For the problems of high repeat rate,high error rate,the large number of characters(a pair of tire mold characters up to 400),and low efficiency,this paper studies how to implement the rapid design of tire mold characters by the method of procedural design under the condition of considering the manufacturing conditions.The main work is listed as follows:1)The character curve contour needs to be multi segment line(polyline)after extraction in order to facilitate the requirements of automatic programming,first extract font contour data by GetGlyphOutline function,then take points in the curve by chord error to reform series multi segment line to describe character outline.2)According to the requirements of the verification and adjustment of the character spacing and location before programming the NC engraving.This paper proposes the characters recognition principle,the minimum distance algorithm of the characters and the actual minimum distance acquisition principle of the characters.The algorithm of character rotation transformation and mobile transformation is given,and the corresponding program is developed to realize a series of circular arc composition design and straight line typesetting design function.A new method of sector frame selection is proposed,which has obvious advantages in the physical selection of the curved shape of the sector,compared with the traditional selectionmethod in CAD.3)According to the problem that the fringe pattern is not up to the requirement of the effect of the texture,the paper proposes a processing algorithm for the filling of the characters in the strip.The results show that the filling effect of the algorithm is better than that of the traditional fringe pattern.4)According to the problem of the high repetition rate of the tire mold character design,this paper puts forward the solution of the character library,which uses the Excel file as the external database to store the character data.
