Forest carbon sequestration has become an important part of China's commitment to fulfilling greenhouse gas emission reductions and an important strategic choice for addressing climate change, and have been included in the trading targets of the national carbon trading market voluntary emission reduction market. As the micro-subject of forest carbon sequestration projects, farmers are still lack of scientific understanding of forest carbon sequestration and transactions due to their own cultural level and incomplete market information.Based on the incomplete grasp of forest carbon sequestration information by farmers, this study attempted to answer the following three questions: What are the driving factors for farmers' participation in forest carbon sequestration trading under incomplete information? What is the mechanism of action among these driving factors? Is the willingness of farmers to continue participating in the 30-year forest carbon sequestration transaction project affected by these driving factors?Suichang County is one of the first batch of counties and municipalities to initiate CCER bamboo forest management projects for carbon sequestration. It has abundant bamboo forest resources and more bamboo forest areas and farmers participating in the project, and has a strong representative. Therefore, this study is based on 10 villages in 5 townships and towns of CCER bamboo forest management project in Suichang County, this paper used the qualitative research method to explore the driving factors and mechanism of farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration trading from the perspective of incomplete information. It also analyzed the information on farmers' participation in forest carbon sequestration and the willingness and extent of continued participation through the data of 140 participating household survey questionnaires, and then used the binary probit model and the mediation effect model to conduct empirical tests. The findings are as follows:1.The driving factors of farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration trading from the perspective of incomplete information: First, this paper constructed a theoretical framework of the driving factors of farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration trading based on literature deduction, and then used depth interviews of individual farmer to take root analysis to obtain open coding, spindle coding and selective coding, and driving factors were extracted: internal factors(government trust, economic orientation, environmental orientation),social capital factors(social trust, social networks, social norms)and external environmental characteristics factors(policy support, project propaganda, information access difficulty, project property rights perception),subsequently a theoretical framework of the driving factors of farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration trading under incomplete information condition was constructed.Revised the existing framework and put forward the research hypothesis.2.The empirical analysis of the continued participation of farmers in forest carbon sequestration transactions with incomplete information: based on the grounded theory analysis results and the forest carbon trading project development model,an empirical analysis was conducted through 140 household survey questionnaires.(1)Identifying farmers' participation in forest carbon sequestration trading in the “low-cognition” situation, only 36.68% of farmers understand forest carbon sequestration information,up to 47.93% do not understand forest carbon sequestrations;farmers understand the type of forest carbon sequestration information: Individual information > Situational structure information > Group information; There are differences in farmers' participation in forest carbon sequestration transactions under different internal factors, social capital and external environment characteristics, but the differences between individual factors are not obvious.(2)Empirical tests of measurement models: Based on grounded theory analysis,a theoretical model of driving factors of farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration transactions was constructed, and a questionnaire was designed to empirically test the driving factors and mechanism of farmers' continued participation in forest carbon sequestration trading.1)The benchmark model results show that intrinsic factors, social capital, and external environmental characteristics have a significant direct impact on farmers' sustainable participation in forest carbon sequestration transactions.Among them, government trust, social network, social norms, social trust, policy support, project property rights recognition and other factors have significant positive impacts on farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration transactions. While environmental orientation, ecological orientation and difficulty of information acquisition have significant negative impacts.2)The results of the mediating effect test show that only social networks in social capital indirectly affect farmers' continued participation in forest carbon sequestration projects through economic orientation, the degree of policy support in external environmental characteristics indirectly affects the farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration trading through government trust and economic orientation. The propaganda of the project only indirectly affects farmers' continuous participation in forest carbon sequestration trading through economic orientation, and there is no direct effect.3)The benchmark model results and the mediating effect results better verify the research hypothesis proposed by the grounded theory analysis, but some research hypotheses have not been tested. Finally, based on the conclusions of the appeal study, this paper proposed targeted policy recommendations: Pay attention to the integrity and authenticity of information, and avoid the farmers' halfway withdrawal behavior;enhance government credibility and reduce project transaction costs;pay attention to the cultivation of farmers' social capital and strengthen the leading role of demonstration;Increase publicity effects and reduce the difficulty of information acquisition.
