Electrochemical etching is an important branch of electrochemical machining, which is widely used in aviation, aerospace, nuclear energy and other fields.Thermal ion energy converter is a device that converts thermal energy into electrical energy. Its emitter material is refractory metal of tungsten and molybdenum. The processing of tungsten and molybdenum workpieces is a difficult problem in mechanical manufacturing process and equipment, and electrochemical etching is an effective way to solve it.In this paper,an electrochemical etching machine is designed to process the vapor deposited tungsten workpiece on molybdenum substrate, which exposes more {110} crystal surfaces on the surface, thus improving the efficiency of thermal ion energy converter to convert thermal energy into electrical energy. The specific work is as follows:The overall layout of the 45 degree inclined bed of the machine tool was determined. The mechanical structure of the machine tool was designed, including the bed, spindle box, tailstock, cathode tooling, electrolyte system and outer cover protection. The key components such as servo motor and ball screw are selected;the static and dynamic analysis of the machine tool is carried out by ANSYS Workbench, and the lightweight design of the bed structure is carried out by topological optimization;the characteristics of flow field in electrochemical etching are studied, and the uniformity of flow field, electrolyte flow velocity and electrolyte hydraulic force of four different electrolyte outlet forms are analyzed by FLUENT.The influence of distribution. The simulation results show that the flow rate of electrolyte is stable and the pressure distribution is uniform when the flat discharge form is optimized. The machine tool is installed, debugged and tested. The parameters of the moving parts of the machine tool meet the design requirements and the machine tool runs well.According to the technological requirements of electrochemical etching, the tungsten and molybdenum workpieces were processed by selecting reasonable technological parameters. The experimental results show that the {110} crystal surface of the etched workpieces has the same orientation and good morphology, which meets the technological requirements.
