The adhesion and physical and mechanical properties of EPDM/polyester cord composites were studied in this paper.The effects on the adhesion and other properties of EPDM and polyester cord were investigated by changing the type of resorcinol,the type and dosage of tackifier,the surface chemical modification of polyester fiber.Firstly,the effects of different kinds of resorcinol PN760,HRT1863,SL3020 and other viscosifiers?such as 1731HS,STR,etc.?on the adhesion and physical and mechanical properties of EPDM/polyester cord composites were studied.The results showed that SL3020 adhesive system has excellent properties of tensile strength and elongation at break,HRT1863 adhesive system has excellent properties of 100%constant tensile stress,and PN760 adhesive system has excellent tearing strength and compression permanent deformation.HRT1863 adhesive system has the best adhesive performance,followed by PN760 adhesive system and SL3020 adhesive system.Secondly,three kinds of adhesion enhancing agents,1731HS,LIR-50 and TH220were studied.The effects of changing the dosage on the physical and mechanical properties of EPDM and the bonding properties of EPDM/polyester cord were investigated.The results showed that for 1731HS,when the dosage of 1731HS is 6,the bonding strength of EPDM/polyester cord is higher.With the increase of the amount of1731HS,the adhesive fatigue properties of EPDM/polyester fiber composites first increases and then decreases.For the LIR-50,When the dosage of LIR-50 is 10,the adhesive strength of EPDM/polyester cord is higher.With the increase of the dosage of LIR-50,the adhesion fatigue performance of EPDM/polyester fiber composites increases first and then decreases.When the dosage of LIR-50 reaches 10,the adhesion fatigue performance is the best.For TH220,with the increase of the dosage of TH220,the adhesion strength of EPDM/polyester cord increases first and then decreases.With the increase of the dosage of TH220,the adhesive fatigue performance of EPDM/polyester fiber composites decreases gradually.Finally,the effects of surface modification of polyester fiber on fiber surface properties and EPDM/polyester cord adhesion were studied.The results showed that after KH550,KH570 and plasma treatment,the content of eleme nt C decreases,the content of element O increases,and the value of O/C increases,Si elements appeare on the surface of KH550 and KH570 treated fibers.Through infrared spectrum analysis,KH550 and KH570 were grafted onto the fiber surface successfully,and plasma treatment increase the oxygen-containing groups on the fiber surface.The results of static adhesion and adhesion fatigue show that KH550 has the best effect.After KH550 and KH550/CO2 treatment,the content of element C on the fiber surface decreases,while the content of element O increases and new element Si appeares.After TDI and TDI/CO2 treatment,the content of element C on the fiber surface decreases,the content of element O decreases,the value of element O/C increases,and a new element N appears.It was found that TDI grafted onto the fiber surface successfully.The adhesion properties of the composite material showed that KH550/CO2 treatment has the best effect.
