The development of science and technology not only promotes social progress, but also brings the risk of "uncertainty".Under the double nesting of risk society and transition risk,a large number of risk issues are emerging in our country, and scientific disputes are continuing. These issues often involve people's livelihood security, causing public panic, and the background and context of scientific communication are more complex. As a prominent technology in the field of molecular biology,GM technology has spread and promoted in the context of risk society. The debate on GM food is even more serious because of its direct connection with human health.Although the mainstream attitude of the scientific community to the safety of GM food is that the vast majority of studies so far show that GM technology is safe, the public has never stopped disputing and questioning about it.Based on the understanding and grasp of Baker's risk society theory, this paper puts the science communication of the GM food safety in the view of risk society. From the perspective of the social mentality in risk society, six possible factors influencing effect of the science communication of GM food safety are sorted out: "unknown-effects",risk perception, benefit perception, knowledge, deference to scientific authority and social trust(expert trust/government trust).Through further empirical research,it is found that risk perception/benefit perception of GM food has an important impact on its acceptance;deference to scientific authority and social trust are important emotional factors affecting attitude(acceptance);knowledge can inspire people's rational cognitive model, but at the same time, like Baker's "knowledge determines risk",in the current situation in China, the more we know about biology, the less we accept GM food.In addition, although the "unknown-effects" of GM technology does not show a predictive effect on acceptance,it has a positive impact on the risk perception of GM food, that is,the more we think that there are many unknown factors in GM technology, the higher the risk perception of GM food.As a result, public attitudes towards emerging technologies are not entirely determined by rational cognitive models, which are also mixed with emotional models. At present, while continuing to popularize science and improve scientific literacy, the government, media and scientific institutions must reconstruct the environment so that technological development can be viewed and evaluated rationally. At the same time, they should attach importance to the inter subjectivity of the public, promote public participation in science and rebuild social trust.
