Machine tool is the platform of industrial manufacturing and also the most energy-consuming part during manufacturing process.Hence,monitoring and analyzing energy consumption of machine tool is essential for sustainable manufacturing.In order to achieve effective energy optimization of machine tool,the first step is to get energy profile of machine tool during machining.Based on the analysis above,this paper proposed a real-time machine tool energy monitoring system,which can monitor various energy-consumption components of machine tool and generate energy profile of stages in machining process.The main work of this paper includes:(1)According to the demands of energy-consumption characterization and real-time data acquisition for the NC machine tool,an overall design of machine tool energy consumption monitoring system has been given,the appropriate electronic components have been selected,and the circuit diagrams have been designed.Moreover,the system has been divided as the host user interface unit and slave signal acquisition unit.(2)Based on the built hardware platform and design of functional units,the software of monitoring system has been developed,including signal acquisition and data transmission module on the slave board,data display and storage module on the host board.(3)The performance of the designed system has been verified by tests subsequently.A series of milling tests have been carried out to measure the energy consumption of main transmission system,cutting process and total energy consumption of machine tool.In addition,relationship between different cutting parameters,lubrication condition and machine tool energy consumption has been revealed via the analysis of measured energy data.In the end,three energy optimization methods concerning cutting parameters and lubrication condition have been proposed.
