The microemulsion cutting fluid has the property that is long service life,low cost for waste treatment,and environmental friendship.Due to the diversity of types of equipment and metals processed,there is a great demand for universal microemulsion cutting fluid in the market.In this paper,the development process of cutting fluids was divided into nine segments:base oil screening,corrosion inhibitor screening,antibacterial additive screening,emulsifier screening,friction modifier screening,emulsion stability,concentrated solution stability,defoamer screening,and evaluation of cutting fluid performance.This process greatly reduces the number of experiments and shortens the development cycle to about three months.The use of mixed oil reduces the cost of cutting fluid.The orthogonal analysis was used to confirm the antibacterial components and dosage in cutting fluid.The corrosion protection is improved by the combination of organic acids,resulting in desirable corrosion prevention by adding corrosion inhibitors of 10.7%.The main emulsifier in cutting fluid is the ester formed from the reaction of antibacterial components and organic acids of the antirust agents while the auxiliary emulsifier is selected to improve the ability of anti hard water and cleaning performance.In addition to the self-emulsified ester as the friction modifier in cutting fluid,the phosphorus-containing anti-wear additive L2 is added to meet further lubrication requirements.On the base of making the emulsion system of cutting fluid stable,the stability of the concentrated fluid is adjusted to meet the requirement of transportation and storage.Combining several types of defoamers make antifoam performance of cutting fluid good for a long time and the result is reducing the usage of the defoamers.It is confirmed that the performance of cutting fluid developed meets the technological requirements including lubricity,cleanability,stability,antirust,and defoaming,whose expected service life is more than 2 years under the condition of 10 ppm hard water and reasonable maintenance.
