Carbon emissions are recognized as the main cause of global warming which is one of the urgent environmental problems.Chinese total carbon emissions have become the highest in the world and its carbon emission reduction pressure is daunting.The construction industry is typical of low apparent carbon emissions and high implied carbon emissions.Considering its importance in China's national economy,its industry emission reduction must be carried out under the premise of ensuring its economic output.Scientific research on the carbon emission efficiency of the construction industry is significant for the industry development and the implementation of carbon emission reduction.Therefore,based on the existing literature and related theoretical models,this paper studies and analyzes the complete carbon emissions,carbon emission efficiency,emission reduction potential,spatial effects and influencing factors of inter-provincial construction industry in China.The main results are as follows:(1)The emission factor method is used to measure the direct carbon emissions of the construction industry and related industries.From the perspective of industrial linkage,the input-output method is used to calculate carbon emissions generated by the construction industry driving itself and the nine high-interest industries.The results are used to characterize the complete carbon emissions of the construction industry.The study comes out that during the study period,the complete carbon emissions of China's construction industry shows a continuous growth.In terms of its composition,the contribution of metal smelting and rolling processing industry to the complete carbon emission of the construction industry is as high as 48.10%,the contribution of nonmetallic mineral products industry is 16.76%,and the proportion of chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing is 9.95%.The coal mining and washing industry is 9.38%,and the total proportion of the four industries is as high as 84.19%.From a regional perspective,the average annual growth rates in the eastern,central,western,and northeastern regions are 7.98%,9.94%,10.06%,and 7.38%,respectively.From the provincial perspective,Shanxi,Zhejiang,Liaoning,and Jiangsu are the provinces with the highest annual carbon emissions in construction industry and Fujian and Xinjiang are the highest provinces in annual growth rate.(2)Based on the relevant panel data from 2005 to 2016,the ultra-efficient SBM model is used to calculate the carbon emission efficiency of the construction industry in 30 provinces and cities in China.The result shows that the carbon emission efficiency in China's construction industry show a steady growth trend,but the overall efficiency level is low.From a regional perspective,the efficiency of the eastern region is better than that of the central and western regions,while the northeast region has a large change.It is superior to other regions before 2012 and then begins to be lower than the overall national efficiency level.From the perspective of provincial changes,the efficiency of provinces such as Beijing,Hubei,Guangxi,Chongqing,and Xinjiang increase significantly,and the efficiency of Liaoning,Heilongjiang,Fujian,and Jiangxi provinces decreases significantly.Analysis of the carbon emission reduction potential of the provincial construction industry,China's construction industry overall carbon emission reduction potential is huge,but the province's carbon emission reduction potential is different,the distribution difference is very significant,the average annual emission reduction potential in Zhejiang,Beijing,Tianjin,Jiangsu,Shanghai is below 0,that is,the five provinces have reached the optimal carbon emissions.While the seven provinces of Shaanxi,Qinghai,Guizhou,Gansu,Inner Mongolia,Ningxia and Yunnan have an emission reduction potential of more than 60%.(3)The spatial autocorrelation of carbon emission efficiency in China's interprovincial construction industry is verified by Global Moran ' s I index and local Moran scatter plot,and the result shows that the efficiency of carbon emission in inter-provincial construction industry shows obvious spatial positive correlation.Therefore,based on spatial correlation analysis and LM test results,the spatial lag model is selected to study the factors influencing the carbon emission efficiency of the inter-provincial construction industry and the result shows that the low carbon technology index has a negative impact on the efficiency.The labor productivity,industrial driving coefficient,ownership attribute and urbanization rate of the construction industry can promote the growth of carbon emission efficiency in the construction industry.The factor endowment,construction technology and equipment rate and the economic efficiency of each province have not passed the significant test.
