The valve,as a key component of the fluid piping system,has a wide range of uses in the whole national economy.The valve design has a strong inheritance and correlation of the product structure,and it follows the unique design patterns and design process.Currently,most of the value CAD systems are suitable for the small and the medium-sized valves designing,which have simple construction and less number of parts.As for the large special valves,which have more complex structure and more parts,there are still a lot of works to do.In this paper,a large number of valve design knowledge is summarized,and the design features and the relationship between the key parameters of gate valve are analyzed.The design units,which are made up of the valve structure information,the correlation information,the parameter information and other valve design informations,are studied.The gate valve's product structure hierarchy model is set up,and the parameters of product level and design units level are integrated,based on TPS(Theory of Polychromatic Sets).The parameters are modified more convenient and effective,using the polychromatic sets to deal with the relationship between the key parameters and the design units.According to the structural information and the associated information of the design units,a parameter-driven and automated assembly method of the gate valve design units is researched in.Pro/E environment,and a man-machine dialogue mechanism is founded.The CAD system of gate valves based on TPS is finished and part software of "the system is developed.
