Building Conservation In The Forbidden City: A Case Study Of Yinghua Temple

The Yinhua Temple is located in the northwest of the west road,and the north of the Shouan Palace,the Forbidden City,It was first built in the early Ming dynasty under the name of Longxi Temple and later renamed to the Yinhua Temple in the first year of the Longqing(1567).It was rebuilt in the 36 th.Year of the Qianlong,Qing Dynasty(1771).This paper makes use of the Chinese conventional repair methods and theories to analyze the conservation technology for the buildings of the Qing dynasty.The Yinhua Temple will be used as an example.Based on the highly sophisticated and purified core technologies,this paper describes in detail the conservation technology and the crafting of the major parts in the Yinhua Temple.This conservation project could be used as a model for the conservation of similar buildings.Architecture legacy is one of the major witness of our historical and colorful civilization.However,in nowadays society,the rich business people and middle class people are all love the new and exotic things,and despite original architectures.The reason of this phenomenon is not others but the local city construction and developing is based on the cost of the disappear of the architecture culture,letting the ancient architectures fell down.And also,the huge impact and damage caused by the western architecture art to our architecture industry.The most important reason is the lack of the recognition: architecture is the culture legacy.Mr.Sicheng Liang used to point it out in half century ago,that: the study of the China's ancient architecture is a work that go against the times.Now we could see that this work has a long way to go.Following the Act of the Preservation of Cultural Relics Promulgated by P.R.C.,and under the precondition of the guaranteeing the safety of the ancient architectures,this paper starts from the conservation of the Yinghua Temple,tries its best to reduce the interference,to maintain the most of the historical objects and information.Follow the principle of the cultural relics and conservation,recover and keep the layout of the whole Imperial Palace and the appearance of the individual structure,and apply the methods and results by high and new technology actively and prudently at the same time,and pay attention to combine with the conventional craft and technology,this paper made the strategies of”get rid of the disease and keep a long life”,“save the original objects”,“interfere the least” and the “use the facilities synchronously ”,after a complete analysis and research to the history and situations of the ancient times and nowadays of the Yinhua Temple.With the target of the “accomplish the conservation and protection to the Imperial Palace;fully demonstrate its historical cultural value and connotation ”,pick the suitable conservation program and technology,to recover one by one the roof,the large timber construction,the wall,the basement,the dizhang,oil decoration and color painting of the main architectures of the Yinghua Temple;arrange the whole yard frame of the Yinghua Temple,and pay attention to the difference index during the conservation process at the same time.This paper demonstrates in detail the target and applied technology to maintain and protect the Yinghua Temple.It solved the current problem of the Yinhua Temple structure in the theoretic and reality angle.
