It has been over forty years since the emergence of high-rise residential areas,which solved the contradiction between land and population well.However,the design and construction of early high-rise residential buildings or public spaces are not mature,they gradually grope for progress in the process of development.With the development of society and economy,people’s life style and demand are changing with each passing day.Residential buildings are always lagging behind the change because of their long life cycle and high cost of updating.For old residential areas,there must be some contradiction between demand and current situation.This article analyzes the age and population characteristics of the current housing demand users,then find out that young people are emerging forces in the use of high-rise residential buildings in urban areas.In the moment of intelligent life style,especially the virtualization of communication and social interaction in recent five years,young people have different demand of intercourse compare to any other group,thus focusing on the public space design of the community.The high-rise residential area has great potential for renewal because of the long distance between buildings as well the equipment of basement,thus triggering the issue——Research on optimal design of public space for old high-rise community in urban area based on the needs of Youth Communication.Young people’s intercourse needs are taken as a breakthrough point to analyze the types,characteristics and spatial feelings of public spaces in old high-rise residential areas,and find out the situation that the area of activity is insufficient,function is single,and space form is incompatible with the age of aesthetics.At the same time,we analyze the psychological,physiological and characteristics in the period of young people.Combined with the survey data,we conclude the most urgent communication needs of the youth.Base on this,we get the spatial elements that influence young people’s willingness to communicate——the openness,inclusiveness,applicability and spatial experience of space.And it puts forward three renewal principles:moderate renewal,multi subject participation and space sharing.Under the guidance of the principle,the following four specific strategies are proposed:multi-side expansion of the available space,the scheme selection and the multi subjects voting,the functional complex,and the virtual network platform construction.Finally,according to the classification of old high-rise residential areas’ public space,we propose a renewal mode for every type of space,which hope to provide templates for the updating.
