Handling stability and ride comfort are important characteristics of the automobile which are the guarantee of driving safety and ride comfort, and they have become increasingly prominent in the development and design of automobiles.Good handling stability and ride comfort are the foundation that automobile can smoothly access to the market and be accepted by costumers.Ride comfort and handling stability are interrelated but contradictory as well, therefore, how ride comfort and handling stability can be improved simultaneously is one of the tough tasks that researchers of automotive industry should face in vehicle development. This paper focuses on the handling stability and ride comfort of a heavy commercial vehicle and conducts a study on its simulation analysis and optimization.Three evaluation indexes of handling stability and one index of ride comfort are selected as optimization objectives, while suspension stiffness and damping index are regarded as design variables.A sensitivity analysis is Carried on for these two design variables and the most influential variable is selected, then the optimal Latin hypercube is used for the experiment design, the response surface method is used to fit the multi-objective collaborative optimization model, and the NSGA-II algorithm is used for optimization task.According to the optimization results, the parameters of the suspension are adjusted, and simulation results of the handling stability and ride comfort before and after optimization are compared. The result shows that the optimized parameters make a great improvement of the handling stability and ride comfort of the researched heavy commercial vehicle.
