Research On Post Occupancy Evaluation Of Reading Space In New Campus Library Of Universities

The transformation of the higher education model and the arrival of the information age have made the functions of university library building expand and become a diversified information sharing and communication center.Among them,reading space has become an significant place for teachers and students to study independently and research projects.Its proportion of space in the library is growing and it has become the most important part of the library.The comprehensive development and enrollment expansion of universities have brought about the construction and development of the library buildings in new campus of universities.Whether or not the reading space of new campus library of universities can adapt to the requirements of the development of the times and the diverse needs of readers in the new era,it is related to the overall situation of education development.This dissertation focuses on the reading space of new campus libraries of in Xi'an area.Based on the relevant theoretical research in the early stage,the author adopts the post occupancy evaluation(POE)methods to carry out the research work.Through a large-scale investigation of libraries in new campus of universities in Xi'an,this paper summarizes the current characteristics of libraries and their reading space,and selects three representative libraries as the typical cases for implementing post-occupancy evaluation studies.Using POE methods such as observation method,behavioral map method,interview method,survey questionnaire method,and scaling method,the evaluation based on readers' usage patterns and the evaluation based on readers' satisfaction are carried out on reading space of the typical cases.According to the evaluation results,it is concluded that readers' behavior patterns and psychological needs are diversified.Currently,the reading space of the existing new campus libraries can meet the basic needs of readers,but there are still deficiencies in the spatial pattern,layout,environmental atmosphere,and informatization support.Finally,aiming at the reading space of the existing new campus libraries in Xi'an area,on the basis of the existing space model,specific optimization design suggestions for various types of reading spaces are proposed,including enhancing spatial connections,enriching spatial layout forms and functions,adding research rooms and seminar rooms,etc.And put forward the optimization suggestion of improving the space environment atmosphere throughinterior art deco design.Aiming at the design of reading space in university libraries under the new era,the concept of “reading layer” are proposed,and the design strategy of open reading space is discussed from the aspects of graphic design,vertical design and environmental design.It hopes to provide some valuable references for the design of reading space in university libraries.
