Study On The Better Design Of Open-Stack Reading Space In The Uninvesity Library

With the development of modern society, human beings are stepping into an era of information, in which educational concepts are undergoing rapid changes. In accordance with the continual development of science and technology and the increasing information transmitting speed, great changes have taken place in the mode and function of modern university libraries, which means the transition from traditional mono-functional libraries to comprehensive multi-functional ones with the information service center providing various reading materials, consulting services, and space for study, research and communication. Under this circumstance, the reading space of university library transforms from traditional way to the mode of open-stack reading; therefore, it is of great importance for the designers to provide a more qualified reading and researching space based on the open-stack mode of libraries. In the present situation, it is of significant value to learn from excellent research and practice of foreign countries, and explore the most suitable designing method of open-stack reading space of university library in accordance with the advancement of Quality Education in China.Based on the above mentioned background, the present study selects the reading space of university library as the research subject, and by examining some reading spaces of university libraries both at home and abroad, the author analyzes their typical forms and generalizes the present application situation and also the problems existed. With the aid of questionnaire instrument, an open-stack reading trend is assured with the discovery of its flexibility, width and vagueness; therefore, the open-stack reading space designing strategy is proposed. To sum up, the present study put forward a reasonable method for structuring and designing through a pertinent research of the open-stack reading space from global to local.
