Nowadays, the development of china’s urban construction has stepped into a new ear, facing up with a great number of challenge from historical transformation. As the historical remains and memory of a city, historic district is a key topic in the preservation of urban characteristic, but it is a huge difficulty of urban conversation study as well. This study focuses on the existing problems in the current study on street and line interface protection in historic neighborhoods, and preliminary established a set of quantitative research methods for the morphological characteristics of streets and in historic neighborhoods, aiming to achieve an objective description of interface morphological characteristic and to guide the renewal and protection of the morphological characteristics of street and line interfaces. The article focuses on the methods construction and the empirical research. In the methods construction, this thesis firstly summarizes the related researches at home and abroad. Then, under the guidance of the environmental art design discipline, and starting from the relationship theory of “human-environment”,the author deducts and establishes a quantitative research framework “objective form—cognitive imagery”,combing the objective morphological features and subjective cognition of street and lane. The study of the geometric features of streets and lane in historic blocks are thereby conducted under such research framework. The empirical research can be divided into two parts.Firstly, the streets of Zhenjiang Historic District are selected as research objects.Quantization parameters(aspect ratio,near-line ratio, and interface density)are used to parametrically describe the aspect ratio, the asperity, and the degree of continuity of the interfaces of main lanes, branch lanes, and alleyways in this block.Quantitative parameter value intervals are summarized to verify the feasibility of the quantitative method for the intuitive depiction of street and lane morphological features;Secondly, through the obtained morphological parameter ranges of street and lane interfaces, the establishment of current protection and renewal strategy of “Xiaojie” street interface morphological features are inspired.Furthermore, the effectiveness of the quantitative research method in guiding the practical application of street shape feature protection is verified. This quantitative research on the interface of streets and lanes in historic districts provides us with a clearer and more intuitive understanding of street shape features. It also provides an objective and effective parameter guidance for the protection of streets and lanes,The method of quantifying the shape of streets and lanes as a part of the protection research system of historical blocks can also enrich and improve the construction of the historic blocks and even the entire urban cultural research system.
