With the rapid development of China's small and medium-sized cities and the increasing mobility. The urban pollution brought by the city is getting heavier and the city's vitality brought about by the expansion of the city is reduced.Modeling the Loss of Urban Humanistic Characteristics in the Light of the Metropolitan Spatial Pattern. The city's living environment is getting worse.Nowadays, most small and medium-sized cities in China still follow the concept of urban development guided by “motor vehicles”,ignoring the spatial bearing capacity of cities and the needs of urban residents. The spatial pattern of urban space is separate from the residents' lives. The urban slow system is incomplete.Urban space develops non-motor vehicles that are disadvantageous to the residents, causing more and more social conflicts. So,people's demand for urban streets and urban functions is reduced, affecting the city's human settlement environment.Slow-moving city concept emphasizes "people-oriented",urban slow priority, and a green, healthy and comfortable urban environment with urban humanistic features is constructed. The space of small and medium-sized cities in our country is suitable for guiding the development of slow behavior. Therefore, the concept of slow-moving cities can be applied to urban design practice in small and medium-sized cities in China.Slow urban development philosophy is to solve the problems of small and medium cities to promote urban development, can make a positive attempt to build a sustainable development of green cities. This paper is based on the premise and goal of building a “people-oriented” approach to improving the human settlement environment in small and medium-sized cities.First, sort out the mature western slow-moving urban theory and construct basic research theory.Secondly, this paper summarize the successful experience of development of the city slow system in China and Europe and other developed cities in slow urban construction, and discovered the current situation and problems of the development of the slow system in cities in China's small and medium cities(Chapter 2).The problems of the space of small and medium-sized cities are classified into three aspects: the spatial structure of cities, the lack of urban transportation systems and the lack of urban humanistic environment.According to these three aspects, the principle of spatial relevance, hierarchy, and accessibility of slow cities. And analysis of the Control Elements of Urban Design from the Three Aspects of Human Behavior Demand,Urban Material Space and Humanistic Spirit. Therefore, the key to designing urban space in small and medium-sized cities in China is to transform from “motor vehicles” to “people-based”.To build a framework for urban spatial construction and propose a model hierarchy for urban ideal development and guided design strategies for urban transport systems and urban human landscape systems. Finally,an evaluation model for the overall slow environment of the city was constructed. The overall system guarantees the direction of urban development dominated by slow behavior(Chapter 4).Eventually,through the practice of urban design in the city of Shaoshan under the concept of slow city, the design strategy of the slow system is verified(Chapter 5).This paper aim to build a complete urban slow system,a variety of urban experiences, and a comfortable urban slow environment. Then,it creates a "people-oriented" urban space development strategy was to try to create better urban space environment, urban residents have a quality city life.To provide ideas and methods for the construction of human settlements in China's small and medium-sized cities to realize slow and sustainable development.
