As a special engineering material, polyimide(PI)has excellent high temperature resistance and good wear resistance. In recent years,PI as a new type of solid self-lubricating material has been attracting the attention of researchers. However,PI has the poor bondining performance with steel material, which restricts its use on aerospace roller bearings. Therefore,it is necessary to study the bonding performance of the two materials.Because of its high efficiency and low cost, finite element simulation technology is applied to all fields. It is a great significance to study the bonding performance between PI with roller bearing outer ring, and to determine the production parameters of the PI self-lubricating layer thermal compression molding process by finite element simulation. In this paper, the interface mechanics theories was used to study the stress distribution of the PI/45# steel' interface when the interface is concentrated by normal and tangental.Research results indicated that the interface shear capacity is much greater than the tensile capacity. The groove can be made on the surface of 45# steel to provide the shear plane and the mechanical locking,so as to achieve the purpose of improving the interface bonding strength.ANSYS was used to analyze the effects of groove width, depth,PI layer thickness, and groove area ratio on the bonding performance. The shear strength was used to characterize the binding properties. The nonlinear spring element method was used to equal the coupling layer of the PI/45# steel, the stiffness coefficient of the spring unit was determined according to the elastic modulus of PI and the interface ultimate stress. The simulation obtained the parameters with the best interface shearing ability. The orthogonal test method was used to design the verification test, and the test was conducted. The simulation results were compared with the test results. The results show that: The test laws are consistent with the simulation results.ANSYS FLUENT was used to simulated the filling process of the PI melt in the outer ring cavity of the roller bearing. The results showed that the PI melt flows progressively inside the cavity in the film cavity, and the flow pattern basically conforms to the laminar flow.At the same time, combined with the thermal molding test results, the process parameters for the thermal molding of the PI self-lubricating layer on the outer ring of the roller bearing were determined.
