In the context of globalization and information, the development of information and transportation technology has promoted the development of transnational corporations. As the space carrier of enterprises, the internal space and external links of urban areas have also undergone profound changes. From the regional level, with a highly globalized metropolitan area as the core and with the region within the neighboring cities through the division of labor to achieve functional integration and thus form a more closely link, once again shaping the regional space organization. In the context of rapid urbanization in China, the urbanization and network development trend is becoming more and more obvious. The urban agglomeration is the main carrier of urban-regional spatial development, and the development level of the central city is more balanced. Some of the closely linked subspecialization cities have become the core node of the region, and as a regional growth pole, through the agglomeration and diffusion role to promote the evolution of regional spatial organization, shaping the urbanization of the region more abundant spatial level and spatial form. The urban agglomeration in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River is the fifth largest urban agglomeration in our country and the new growth pole of regional economy. At present,it is in the stage of rapid urbanization. The multi-polarization,network and equilibrium of urban agglomeration are obvious.Within the group there have been some urban clusters in the rapid process of concentration development.Under the background, this study combined with the theory of geo-economic,the small cross-border area within the urban agglomeration is called the "sub-regional" space of the urban agglomeration, and the relevant analysis methods and technical means are used to define the sub-region and to devide the types, and to explore the spatial organization of the sub-region.On this basis, the empirical analysis is made on the sub-region of Wuhan metropolitan area, with a view to put forward effective spatial integration and optimization strategies for the sub-regions in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, which is represented by Wuhan metropolitan area. The study is divided into six chapters:Chapter 1 is the introduction.Mainly elaborates the research background, objectives, meaning, analytic framework, and the methodology.Chapter 2 is the theory discussion.Mainly focuses on the new progress of urban agglomeration sub-region studies at home and abroad, and then to provide theoretical support and analysis framework for the study.Chapter 3 is the definition of the sub-region.The study draws on the relevant methods of defining metropolitan at home and abroad.Combined ecological, economic, social three aspects,11 sub-regions in the urban agglomeration of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River were obtained and the types of 11 sub-regions are summarized as follows: core multipoint fusion type, edge growth type and peripheral node variation type.Chapter 4 is the study of the temporal and spatial organization of the sub-regions in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. On the basis of judging the development stage of the urban agglomeration as a whole, this study analyzed their temporal and spatial patterns from three aspects: spatial level, spatial correlation and spatial form through qualitative and quantitative calculation.Chapter 5 is the empirical analysis.By analyzing the characteristics of spatial organization of the Wuhan metropolitan area,we construct the spatial economic network structure of metropolitan area and put forward the idea and strategy of metropolitan spatial integration. It is believed that the the Wuhan metropolitan area should try to build a network of metropolitan areas.
