Because of our country's vast territory, large population and large demand for bulk materials, railway transportation has been attached great importance by the state and people.Compared with other modes of long-distance transport, railway transport can provide a plan-based transport plan,all-weather transport services, cheaper, and safer and more direct mode of transport than other modes of transport.Among them, the dispatching of the placing-in and taking-out wagons system is a complex and work, and its importance can not be underestimated in the whole railway transportation. Therefore,it is particularly important to deal with the dispatching problem of the placing-in and taking-out wagons. The main content of this paper is to use ARENA simulation platform to develop a simulation experiment for optimizing the placing-in and taking-out wagons system on branch-shaped freight operation network(PTWS-BSFON).This paper makes a thorough analysis and understanding of the operation process of PTW from four parts: the composition of the operation system of placing-in and taking-out wagons of special railway lines, the formation of the disassembly subsystem of railway marshalling station, the formation of the placing-in subsystem of railway loading and unloading station and the formation of the taking-out subsystem of railway loading and unloading station. The introduction of the disassembly subsystem of marshalling yard is a basis for understanding the operation process of the placing-in subsystem and taking-out subsystem of loading and unloading station, and also provides a theoretical basis for simulation experiments. And then the simulation platform encompassing two typically shunting modes of PTWS are developed by Arena software under scenarios of PTWS-SO and PTWS-SSMS.The former mode of placing-in and taking-out wagons system is a single operation(PTWS-SO),that is,loading and unloading operations can only be carried out once after the local freight train is unloaded at the relevant loading and unloading stations.Wagons are not allowed to carry out double wagons handling operations from one operating point to another. In this model, eight strategies are discussed to simulate the PTWS without span-shift-moving shunting. The latter is relatively complex, which includes placing-in and taking-out wagons system with span-shift-moving shunting(PTWS-SSMS).Among them, two different strategies are provided in the order of the shift-into and shift-out site. Here paper take the two span-shift-moving strategies into the existing shunting strategies and generate sixteen hybrid shunting strategies.Based on the operation characteristics of the two modes, the simulation platform gives the hierarchical structure of different shunting strategies. Finally, the shunting mode and strategy based on simulation platform are studied through specific examples, which proves the rationality of this method in the application of different strategies.Taking into account all the possible strategies described in this study, technical support is provided to cope with the high operating costs of the placing-in and taking-out wagons and to optimize the small operation system.
