Modern trams have the characteristics of moderate transport capacity,low carbon and environmental protection,and their transport capacity and operating speed are between the subway,light rail and regular public transport,which can make up for the gaps in the “speed chain” and “energy chain” existing in current urban transport.Urban new district,as a key area for modern tram services,how to respond to the characteristics of its development,to create environmentally friendly public transport;how to rationally play the technical characteristics and advantages of modern trams,build a multi-mode,multi-level,integrated Public transport systems;how to determine the length of lines,distribution of stations,layout of depots,selection of key technical indicators,and organization of operations,etc.,are of great significance for the planning and design of modern tram lines in the new urban areas.The paper starts from the relationship between the new urban area and the main city,aims at the connection needs of them,the integration of traffic development and land use,the “multi-mode,multi-level” public transport system,and other transportation development features,combined with modern trams.The development history,technical characteristics and application examples of the new tram have been put forward in different functional orientations of the public transportation system in the new urban area.Then the analysis of the modern trams has good effects on the urban new districts in terms of environmental impact,spatial pattern and land conditions.Firstly,the framework and method of line passenger load intensity are analyzed,and the applicable threshold range of passenger flow load intensity for key indicators of line planning is proposed.In the on-line station planning method,reasonable line length,line laying method,station distribution,station layout,and vehicle base design are taken as planning indicators;in line design,system features,vehicle performance,passenger comfort requirements,and urban new areas are proposed.The selection of key technical indicators for road characteristics.The paper analyzes a variety of operational organization modes such as single crossroads,multiple crossroad operations,collinear operations,combined slow and slow running,and multi-group operations,and discusses how to determine the organization mode of operations.Finally,taking the modern tram line T6 of Xiangjiang New District in Hunan Province as an example,the rationality of the planning and design of the line is demonstrated.
