| In recent years,as the cities in Chine have gradually entered a new stage of industrial layout and reorganization of structural type, the replacement of functions and transformation are becoming new topics for urban development. However,in the progress of urban renovation, problems like low recycling rate of building materials, inability to handle construction wastes are continuing to emerge, which are not conducive to the intensive development of economic construction, but also lead to the environmental pollution. On the other hand,as the "witness" of the city’s development, old buildings carry a heavy sense of humanity and history. The simple method "one-size-fits-all" not only blocks people’s continuation to the historical and emotional spirit of the old buildings, but also causes the lack of cultural and historical inheritance to a certain extent.Under the background stated above, this article takes the reusing of existing materials as the starting point, teases the common problems in transformation of old buildings, and summarizes the specific practices by researching the recycling ways. The first chapter of the article is an introduction, which effectively defines the research background, research status at home and abroad, and clarifies the research scope and methods. The second chapter mainly introduces the relevant characteristics of the existing materials from the two aspects:material properties and non-material properties, the unique properties of the existing materials are also emphasized to distinguish from the new ones, which is prepared for the following chapters. The third chapter describes the entire process of reusing existing materials in the renovation of old buildings. In addition to establishing goals and assessing value, this chapter also focuses on the formulation and summarization of reuse strategies, and sums up the reusing methods in three ways:original repair, embezzlement, and juxtaposition of old and new.Specific reuse strategies are also elaborated under these ways. The fourth chapter based on the analysis of a large number of successful transformation cases at home and abroad, and researches on the four existing materials commonly used in renovation projects—bricks, wood, metal and concrete, then fully utilize their own values and characteristics. The fifth chapter takes the actual project for example which the author participated in during the postgraduate phase-Zhengzhou Oilation Creative Industrial Park. The relevant strategies and methods mentioned previously are implemented in the project, which to make further exploration of the appropriate, targeted ways of reusing existing materials in transformation projects. The last chapter summarizes the discussion on the reuse of the previous chapters and looks forward to the development of the reuse of existing materials in the future. |
