In recent years,as the competition in container market gets fiercer,it is urgent(for manufacturers)to expand production capacity to seize market opportunities in peak season because of the sector’s particularity.However,the current situation is that,upon the arrival of sales orders,restrained by the bottleneck in the increase of production capacity,it often happens that orders already placed are being canceled later due to the failure in delivery of containers on demand,resulting in declining profitability of a company.With the rapid growth of the economy,it is imperative to change the situation.Taking production line balance as a starting point,a cooling box company decides to take advantage of the off-season to upgrade its entire production and assembly line.Having the continued improvement of lean production in mind,it strives to improve the layout of line production and eliminate the bottleneck from such five aspects as workforce,machinery,materials,methods and links as part of its effort to accelerate production pace,reduce waste,as well as enhance quality and efficiency.The first chapter of the article states the background and significance of the research subject,and briefs on the latest research development both at home and abroad.It also elaborates on the relevant theoretical knowledge about the standard operation of lean production and the balance of production line,and presents the main ideas,methods and routes of the research subject.In Chapter Two,based mainly on a certain cooling box company,the paper introduces the company’s background and major products,analyzes the current situation of production line,and discusses the making of combination tickets and bar-chart tickets during the operation of all production lines.By making graphics and programming statistic models,it provides analysis of production rhythm and process flow of the company’s general assembly line,thus identifying the existing problems and restraining bottlenecks.In Chapter Three,the thesis focuses on conducting the improvement method analysis about production line balance and production capacity expansion.It first explains the core theory,ideas and principles of lean production,then emphasizes on the approaches of improving production line balance,and later expounds on the basics of simulation technologies applied in dynamic discrete events and describes the steps of simulation system analysis by use of charts.Finally,by collecting the data from general assembly line,it follows the steps of dynamic analysis to establish,analyze and verify models,providing theoretical support for the expansion of production capacity of general assembly line.In Chapter Four,by measuring production rhythm,it first lists the bar-chart tickets of every workbench in general assembly line to spot problems,and then utilizes Arena simulation platform to establish simulation models,through which the data from production line are being processed and analyzed to come up with ideas for improvement.Finally,it uses the platform to verify the improvement scheme to see whether or not the result is valid and meets the expectation for production capacity expansion.In Chapter Five,this part mainly provides analysis of the improvement in production line balance of the company’s general assembly line.By putting the statistics collected before and after the improvement of production line balance into comparison,it finds that the production capacity after the improvement is considerably expanded and enough to achieve the preset goal as expected.Owing to the high similarity in container production process,the research provides a significant reference for our counterparts in the sector,and has a great application value in production capacity expansion of the industry as a whole.Nevertheless,considering that the study is still at the preliminary stage of test in application,there inevitably remains much to be improved based on future test results.
