The traditional streets in Jiangnan area have unique historical, cultural resources and spatial characteristics. In order to study the characteristics of street space better, the principle of statistical analysis has been used to establish a mathematical model of street space characteristics, and to form a data-supported protection model. In this paper,Gunanjie Street is taken as the practice object and Pingjiang Road is taken as the research object.First of all,the ways to revive Gunanjie Street, together with the advantages and disadvantages, are discussed. It is considered that the existing ways can easily lead to the inaccurate evaluation and lose control of the street space, and, under the limited cognition, there are many insufficiencies in perceptual design. In this regard,Pingjiang Road is chosen as a data-based exploration object of street space characteristics, and the views that the renewal of traditional streets is actually the repair of the "continuity" of street space are put forward.Through the data extraction and classification of the component variables, the variation and interaction rules are studied. And the general mathematical model of "continuity" characteristics of Pingjiang Road is discussed. The conclusion is discussed in practice as well. The innovation of this paper is that it breaks the original text description and twodimensional analysis method, and applies the principle of data statistics to the study of the characteristics of street space.By decomposing the characteristics of the traditional street space and constructing the general mathematical model,a rational evaluation and control space special is explored. This way plays a guiding role in the practice of renewal and protection of traditional street space.
