The western suburb of the ancient city in Suzhou was the leading wild natural spatial place for ancient scholars’ travel and lingering.In change of era,nature and humanity are energetic.Also,historical sites and humanistic sites are diversified and coexistent to closely link with the origin,construction and development of Suzhou scholars’ mountain and water gardens.At present,the researches on landscape gardens are focused on the remained Ming and Qing private gardens in the ancient city,but they seldom concentrate on natural landscape and tourist attractions in the suburbs of Suzhou.During the period of Ming and Qing Dynasty,natural landscape construction and humanistic landscape paintings keep pace with each other.There are lots of remains describing nature and human landscapes in the western suburb of Suzhou,laying the foundation and conditions of pattern analysis for landscape paintings and summary of human landscape in the western suburb.The definite landscape paintings are used as the patterns and famous historical sites in western suburb of ancient city in Suzhou are selected as research objects,showing the great value on sorting out and systematically analyzing the context and geographical position in suburb tourist attractions of Suzhou.To begin with,the historical sources of landscape paintings and historical landscape remains relating to suburbs of Suzhou are sorted out.The research emphasis of relevant paintings is the period of Ming and Qing Dynasty.The regional development pattern and consciousness at the beginning of starting the western suburb of Suzhou are summarized.From the Spring and Autumn period to Song and Yuan Dynasties,natural landscapes in Suzhou suburbs developed noble gardens,Buddhist sites,famous historical sites,private residences and annexes to gradually lay the landscape pattern foundation of Ming and Qing Dynasties.Next,the regional landscape is the complete system that is composed of elements,themes and structures.Based on landscape painting pattern language analysis and field investigation in Ming and Qing Dynasties,it can be observed that the regional landscape system of the western suburb is the complete system with elements as the basement,themes as the core,and structure as skeleton.Obviously,the western suburb of Suzhou is a large-scale natural landscape garden with the prominent theme,diversified landscapes and diversified cultures.In the typical analysis of using the Lingyan Mountain,the “Lingyan” thematic landscape painting pattern in the Ming and Qing Dynasties is concluded and analyzed.The construction,site,activity and superposition characteristics in historical period of landscapes in the Lingyan Mountains are figured out.The obvious difference of “scholars’ landscape pattern” and “boundary landscape pattern” in landscape paintings of two generations in Ming and Qing Dynasties is obvious.At last,landscape appearance and features revealed in the regional landscapes of western suburb in the ancient city and landscape painting pattern of the Lingyan Mountain are concluded and summarized.Main innovations of the research are stated as follows: landscape paintings of Ming and Qing Dynasty,painting visual language and regional landscape in Yutu are conducted the visualized quantitative analysis with high combination degree.By targeting at Yanling Mountain Scenery Zone,the pattern law,visual laws,and humanistic ideal solution of visiting,residence,observation and looking in landscape paintings and combining with the scenic area,historic spots are sorted out and conducted systematic landscape analysis in the context and geographical position.
