Design Study On The Activation Of External Space In KuLangSu Concert Hall Area

The renewal of the old urban area has always been an important part in the process of urban construction.However,domestic urban renewal and construction has always been controlled by political factors,social development and economic interest.As a result,many spaces with life flavor,regional characteristics,cultural inheritance and urban history in the old city lose their souls in the process of renewal.Urban life and urban appearance are damaged,presenting social problems.In recent years,under the criticism of this kind of phenomenon,urban renewal has begun to think comprehensively and deeply in space,function,economy and society,and excellent cases have emerged one after another.In this context,this paper studies the status quo and activation design of an old town area in Kulangsu,a world cultural herntage site with significant cultural and historical characteristics,as an example.The"activation"discussed in this paper is the analysis and discussion of the inner property of the old city renewal.The area discussed will be carrned out in the order of"macro-micro",namely"city-external space”,and"system-type",for the preliminary investigation,theoretical analysis and design practice.The introduction and chapter two of this paper mainly focus on theornes and cases,and mainly comb the theories related to urban renewal at home and abroad,so as to make a comprehensive explanation of the key word"activation".Firstly,"city-external space"is taken as the key word in the overview,then"systems-type”is taken as the methodology,and finally,the relevant theories of activation are settled.The third chapter is the investigation and research chapter of Kulangsu music hall area.The background research combines the history and literature,and the space status research takes Kevin lynch’s five elements as the framework,and then comprehensively summarizes the status quo and value by integrating other elements.Chapter four and chapter five are the key parts of the thesis,which are the induction and deduction chapters.The fourth chapter is the combination of theory and research,which analyses the urban environment formation of the area in depth based on the system theory,that is,the necessity analysis of activation.The levels of"system--structure--relationship--element"correspond to the city’s"historical and cultural background--economic and social structure--people--external space".Next,,elements"in the urban system,namely"external space"in the area,are extracted and sorted out according to the theory of morphological typology.Based on the analysis of the urban environment,the renewal and activation principles of the old urban areas in the heritage site can be summarized:authenticity,adaptation,ecology,and sharing.At the end,the strategy of revitalization of the old city is discussed at the system level--form control(element),people-oriented(relationship),function improvement(structure),and multiple thinking(system).The fifth chapter describes the practice of external space design,proposes ideas from a macro perspective,and takes the previous strategy as the guiding ideology,considering problems and needs in many aspects,and carries out the update design of specific spatial nodes.
