Agricultural biomass resources are abundant and widely distributed, the power generation has highly mature technology in China.In-depth research on industry of biomass power generation?BPG?is great significant to national energy security, energy structure adjustment, global warming, environmental pollution and rural economic development. However,at present, the resource potential, power generation demands and development conditions of biomass power generation are unevenly distributed in space. Not only the regional suitability research of industrial development is lacking but also the contribution of industrial benefits to the overall regional development is not clear. In order to evaluate the regional suitability of BPG's industrial development,an indicator system is developed involving three dimensions, resource potential, development demands and development conditions.Twelve indicators reflecting local characteristics are used to represent the suitability collectively in 31 provincial regions in China. The improved matter-element extension model combined with the entropy weight method are adopted to attain holistic and hierarchical evaluation ranks. The results indicate that the distribution of final ranks among regions is imbalanced with the eastern regions presenting more advantages compared with the western ones with regard to BPG's industrial development. In detail, three regions belong to Rank I?optimum?,including Henan,Shandong and Xinjiang.Jilin,Jiangsu,Anhui and other eight provinces belonged to suitable development regions, most of which are major agricultural provinces in China. In addition,Hainan,Tibet,Qinghai are classified into Rank V?unsuited?.There are great differences in the evaluation ranks on three criteria among regions.Beijing and Tianjin are limited by resource potential and development conditions.Development demands is the obstacle to BPG's industrial development in Guangxi and Yunnan. Some critical factors and their contributions to the final ranks in various regions are recognized and some region-targeted improvement suggestions are finally proposed.Take a suitable development region?Jilin province?as an empirical study area,an integrated model for dynamically predicting the energy potential of straw resources and assessing regional energy, environmental, and socioeconomic benefits of biomass power generation industry. The bioenergy potential is predicted considering six influential factors of grain yield. The three benefits of industry are quantitatively assessed in combination with Global Bioenergy Partnership's sustainability indicators. The results show that the quantity of straw available for energy production has continuous rising trend spanning 14 years and could amount to 47.10 million t by2030.Under the government's planning target, biomass power production will reach1700MW.The industrialization of straw power generation technology during 14 years could realize accumulative mitigation of greenhouse gases,SO2,NOx and PM2.5 is352 million t,3.65 million t,0.92 million t,1.79 million t,respectively. An accumulative net profit of 4.88 billion yuan could be created and 87.5 thousand jobs also could be created.Compared with the government's planning scenario?scenario 1?,the accumulative benefit indicators of scenario 2 is 1.9 times as many as scenario 1,and scenario 3 is 3.8 times that of scenario 1,indicating the huge space for the development of the biomass power generation industry. In conclusion, the industrial development of straw power generation technology can promote the regional overall sustainable development. These results are excepted to provide guidance reference for the relevant government policy makers, help policy makers to formulate more appropriate energy development strategy to meet the requirements of sustainable development.
