With the rapid increasing of the global marine operation, the environmental pollution caused by ocean transportation has became more and more seriously. Therefore, it is very important to further the sustainable development in our country by the research on methods and technology of decreasing and controlling the pouring of pollution resulting from marine.Comparing the total emission inventory in Shanghai, we have got to know that the share of the shipment contribution of the metropolis is equal to 12.0%,9.0% and 5.3% of the three key pollutants, including SO2,NO and PM2.5. Of all the kinds of shipment, the ocean-going vessels are responsible for the total emission inventory with the shares of 11.59%,8.4% and 5.1%, respectively. Among them, more than half of the emissions from ocean-going container ships.Shore power technology is an effective measure for port to save energy and redu ce emission. It is of great significance for the construction of energy-saving and envir onmental friendly port to directly provide power from downtown power station to the ships in the port. By making research and study of the application of shore power in S hanghai Port and ships berthing in Shanghai, the author makes a brief introduction of the current shore-power technology and application in Shanghai, calculates and analyses the economic and environmental benefit of container vessels shore-power application.The results show the economic benefit of shore power supply is closely related to the price of fuel oil and local power supply. If the price of heavy fuel oil is higher than 5092.59 yuan per ton or the price of local power supply is lower than 0.83 yuan per kWh, the cost of shore power supply will be less than that of IFO380 power supply. The environmental benefit of shore power supply is obvious. It can effectively reduce the SO2,NOx and CO2 produced by auxiliary power generators on vessels, which will not transit from port to power station. It has been calculated that 4250 TEU container ship in the port such as the use of shore power to reducing SO2 emissions 1239.84 kg per year, reducing NOx emissions 2340 kg per year, reducing CO2 emissions 122940 kg per year. In 2012, international vessels which are calling Shanghai port reached 21,030. According to statistics, international vessels which are calling Shanghai port in 30 percent of container ships. So these international container ships reached 6309 in 2012. If these are 4250 TEU container ships called the Shanghai port stop using the auxiliary power generators switch to shore power, these container ships will reduce SO2 emissions 7822.2 ton per year, reducing NOx emissions 14763 ton per year, reducing CO2 emissions 775628.5 ton per year.On the basis of the above results, the authors propose Shanghai to promote the advantages of using shore power and the need to solve the problem, and pointed out the background of the response to climate change and reduce emissions of atmospheric pollutants in the global, the application prospect of marine shore power technology is very broad.
