| In recent years,in order to alleviate the increasingly serious traffic pressure in major cities,China has vigorously developed urban metro system.Since it is a special type of public projects, the public stakeholders pay close attention to the progress of metro construction projects. However, the status quo of its progress management in China is not optimistic,as an example, schedule delays are very serious in practice.Currently, related theoretical research on this topic is limited. This paper takes China’s metro construction project as the research object, and sets up four research objectives:(1)Analyze the main progress problems of metro construction project in China.(2)Identify the critical influencing factors of the progress of metro project in China;(3)Explore effective countermeasures for the progress of metro project in China;(4)Develop the Progress Management Integration Framework of Metro Construction Project(PMIFMCP),based on the perspectives of “different participants” and “different project stages”.This paper is divided into five sections. The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the industry background and current situation of metro development in China, expounds the research objectives and significance of this paper, and finalizes the research methods and technology roadmap. The second chapter is the basic theory, which illustrates the basic connotation of schedule management, schedule control, etc.Literature review method is adopted to analyze the progress of metro construction projects, and identifies the influencing factors of the progress of metro project projects and the relevant countermeasures to the progress problems. The third chapter is the questionnaire survey and statistical analysis. The descriptive analysis and relative importance index analysis are employed to get the main research findings of this paper. The fourth chapter is the case empirical research to develop the framework for progress management.Further in-depth analysis is used to explore the progress delay problems and relevant countermeasures.Based on these results, the PMIFMCP is developed, from the perspectives of “different participants” and “different project stages”.The fifth chapter is the summary of paper, which includes the main conclusions, limitations and future research directions.Based on the questionnaire survey,102 valid questionnaires were collected, combined with the case study method, the main findings of this paper are:(1)The progress delay problem of the metro construction project in China is very serious: 88.24% of the professionals said that progress delay existed in the metro construction project they have been involved;nearly 60% of professionals pointed out that the project delay rate exceeded 10%,and close to 10% of professionals claimed that the project delay rate exceeded 30%.(2)Preliminary work(0.765),design error(0.747),nature environment(0.743),on-site management(0.739)and fund payment schedule(0.735)are found to be the critical factors affecting the progress of metro construction project in China. The construction contractor has the greatest impact on the project schedule delay(0.741),followed by the designing company(0.728).(3)The progress control system(0.727),economic reward and penalty scheme(0.724)and optimized construction plan(0.668)are three most effective countermeasures to solve the delay problem of the metro project. The counter measures adopted by the employer(0.696)and construction contractor(0.696)are more effective in improving the performance of progress management.(4)According to multi-case analysis, the PMIFMCP from the perspectives of “different participants” and “different project stages” was developed. The research findings of this paper can provide theoretical reference for domestic and foreign researchers to understand more about the progress management situation of metro construction project in China, and also provide a basis for project managers to choose effective schedule management methods. However, the questionnaire survey in this paper is conducted in Jiangsu Province, with the cases in broad China were employed as validation input, the results may not necessarily reflect the overall situation in China. Therefore, conducting empirical research in a broader area of China is the future research direction of this research. |
