Design Of Kitchen Storage Space Based On People’s Storage Behavior

Custom kitchen cabinets in our country started rather late and the design is not fully applicable to Chinese families.With the improvement of living conditions,consumers are increasingly demanding high quality of kitchen life.For kitchen cabinet companies,it is an urgent problem how to make product design according to the consumer’s requirements and narrow kitchen units.Herein,cooperated with Blum,we launch the project called "Household surveys of Chinese kitchen".By observing and researching people’s life styles in different area in our country,we discovery corresponding problems to obtain the most real needs of consumers for kitchen storage space.In this work,the main objects are as follows:Though collecting the information about the kitchen storage by questionnaire survey,interview and photography in urban communities,the current state of kitchen and the user’s living habits are acquired.Aim at the current situation of kitchen storage and the existing pain points,the types,quantities and sizes of kitchen storage items are under statistical analysis,which shows that the state of the user’s kitchen is related to the position of items.Through the analysis the kitchen storage behavior,item storage methods,and ergonomics of kitchen storage,the principles of kitchen cabinet storage are summarized,which demonstrates that the kitchen storage should combine the kitchen function partition and storage principle.Combined with the research content and the analysis of the kitchen storage theory,the concept of space capacity of kitchen cabinet is proposed.By contrast analyses among laminate storage,drawer storage and pull basket storage,it can be concluded that the theoretical capacity is larger than the actual capacity and that the shape,size and placement of items affect the utilization of space capacity.A solution to the pain points for kitchen cabinet storage is also proposed by the kitchen storage theory.The layout of the kitchen storage space is designed according to the characteristics of different aging group to meet their real needs.In combination with the existing problems in pull basket design,we cooperate some companies to carry out the design of the kitchen specific products.Based on the "Chinese Kitchen Household Survey" project and the investigation of user behavior and the space of items and kitchen,we summarize the principles of kitchen storage,initially put forward the concept of the cabinet capacity and propose the design method of combining the kitchen function partition and storage principle to carry out the kitchen space storage planning.We hope that our work could not only provide the theory and date on product refinement design for kitchen cabinet companies,but also helps to improve the user’s kitchen comfort and create a well-organized kitchen working environment for people.
