Study On The Spontaneous Transformation Of The Roadway Space In Pingshan Village,Shenzhen

Village-in-city is a special existence in the process of urbanization in China.It is developed from village and gradually surrounded by cities.It is also urban and rural.This phenomenon of village-in-city is particularly significant in the Pearl River Delta region of China after the reform and opening.The main research object of this thesis is the spontaneous transformation of the roadway space in Pingshan Village,Nanshan District,Shenzhen.Pingshan Village now is a typical Shenzhen village-in-city,which is currently in the initial stage of gradually improving infrastructure and development.The building environment is relatively well preserved and basically occupies a complete block.The village-in-city has historical and cultural buildings such as ancestral halls,towers,and old houses.A large number of migrants live with a small number of villagers.The current situation of the roadway environment in Pingshan Village involves two stages.The first is the physical environment in which the villagers "spontaneously construction" to form the roadway space;the user is then "spontaneously transformed" in this physical environment to form a comprehensive environment for the roadway space.This thesis focuses on the spontaneous transformation of the roadway space,but it is inseparable from the premise of spontaneous construction.Due to the special construction logic of the overall environment of the village-in-city,the dynamic long-term construction process and the uneven personal conditions of the builders make the space type complex and diverse,but also bring some problems to the residents’ life,making it become an extreme living function space with insufficient of living functioning spaces,lack of public space,poor ventilation and lighting conditions,unstable surrounding environment and complex space environment which all stimulate the user’s demand for residential functional space,public space and the transition space between them,thus forcing users to "spontaneous transform",and the best place to transform is the roadway space,and that makes roadway space a rich and diverse environment.In the process,the user shows that there is a spontaneously reaction to deal with the accident and transformation methods which are skillful,low-cost,convenient and effective.Additionally,it also prompted nearby residents to participate in the process of transformation and use,residents can better establish partnerships,carry out rich daily activities and exchanges with neighbors.In turn promote community harmony.The research idea of the spontaneous transformation in this thesis is to explore the essence through phenomena.Through the preliminary research and targeted observation of the roadway space of Pingshan Village,six typical phenomena of user transformation and use of such space are extracted,which is the result of the user’s transformation operation;combined with anthropology "bricolage" research and dynamic observation of phenomena,found that users always find the demand first,then find space,prepare materials,and finally implement specific transformation,this is the process of transformation operation;through the above investigation found:users has a strong ability to cope,which is caused by their own "savage mind" and the needs stimulated by the extreme environment.These are the motivations for users to transform the roadway space.Based on the above system thinking and exploration,it is found that the users transform through occupying the spaces without owners,replacing the existing functional space,and exploring the hidden space.These are the essences of the transformation operation.In order to be consistent with the general writing habits,the writing structure of this thesis is contrary to the order of research ideas,namely the motivation-process-result-essence.In summary,this thesis believes that the important value of the spontaneous transformation process should be fully utilized,and that a good spontaneous transformation is an important way of urban renovation and should be considered equally with the design thinking of top-down planning.What’s more,we also come up with an operating system formed by spontaneously transformation and planning transformation,and at the same time,we propose appropriate operating principles and methods for the designers of planning transformation to help users to spontaneously transform.
