Research In Exceptional Children's Behavior Support Product Using Emotional Design With Welfare Institute

Exceptional children have always been in vulnerable group of society,and some of them have been abandoned by their biological parents because of birth defects.As a non-profit institution managed by the civil affairs department,the welfare institution conduct a unified adoption of these abandoned special children and carries out a certain degree of special education so that they can live a better life.It is an important manifestations of humanitarian care for vulnerable groups.Exceptional children,compared to normal children,often suffer from mental or physical disabilities such as cerebral palsy,congenital stupidity,and mental retardation.This has led to a series of negative behaviors such as self-harm in daily life.Therefore,in the management and maintenance of special children,the welfare hospitals need to use special medical products to protect special children from the harm caused by this behavior.However,due to the lack of professional research on related product in this area,such products are too unlikely to have a large amount of profit in the market.The development of such products has been insufficient,and many products are hand-made by the nursing staff of the welfare homes according to their basic needs.This kind of product,which meet the basic needs of use,have obvious defects in the material,appearance and function,and still have much room for improvement.However,such existing products on the market are designed based on the most basic functions,which often reduces the bad behavior of exceptional children by restraint and binding,but at the same time,secondary injuries may occur.Visually,it tends to look like a medical product.It is cold and shows a strong mechanical sense.It does not have a clear product semantics,and it is easy to increase the user's psychological burden during use.This research based on a project of the school with a child welfare institution in Guangzhou,aims to extract the needs of the existing welfare home children and nursing staff,and innovate and improve design of medical products for exceptional children in the hospital using the emotional design thinking and the design principles of child behavior guidance to the existing welfare.The ultimate goal is to design a humane care that is both capable of performing the actual functions required by a particular child or health care professional and achieving highly emotional in appearance and form.It aims to reduce the workload of medical staff,provide better protecting to special children and reduce their psychological burden when using products.We attempt to use the power of design to warm the exceptional children in welfare house.
