As one of the three main market ships, container ships play an important role in today's shipping market. The design of container ships has begun to enter the great era. From the perspective of large-scale shipping, the hub ports selected in the three regions of Asia,Europe and the United States need to have the conditions of large cargo supply, large water depth and large crane.Generally speaking, the "big era" includes four aspects: large scale shipping, super Union, network spokes and high rank. The first batch of large containers was represented by Maersk's 18000 boxes of container ships, which were built in 2011 with economies of scale, energy efficiency and improved environment.Subsequently, the major shipping companies have set up orders to build their own market share. At this point, the 18000 TEU and above container ships have become the "marking" of the liner company across the Atlantic and across the Pacific route. The large-scale shipping will undoubtedly bring higher requirements for design, such as increasing the capacity and enhance the economies of scale, while the safety problem is particularly prominent.Once the ship is damaged in the sea,if there is no certain remaining stability, the ship will be exposed to the danger of overturning or sinking, the loss of life and property and the pollution caused by the marine environment are immeasurable. Therefore, the accurate calculation of ship damage stability is significant and important.Especially for the container ships with very stable requirements, the damage stability is the limiting condition in actual loading.Based on the calculation method of probability damage stability in the effective SOLAS2009 convention, this paper discusses and studies the determination of the initial floating state in the calculation process, the selection of relevant hypothesis conditions, and the measures to improve the accuracy calculation. The problem of the contradiction between the high initial stability of the container ship and the container loading at the ship deck is discussed, and the high initial stability is reasonably optimized to ensure the volume of the deck packing, and the operating economic profit of the ship owner. In addition,in order to optimize the requirement of initial stability,we can do some optimization design for the higher sub compartment index by optimizing the design. This paper deals with the calculation and analysis of the damaged stability of a large container 18000 TEU ship.Using internationally recognized NAPA software as a computing tool,we analyze the results of Probabilistic Damage Stability Calculation and give some suggestions for optimization design.
