The large automotive covering parts stamping die is a key technology and important symbol in the motor industry.Wedge mechanism can transfer the stamping force and convert the direction of motion,it is the indispensable and the core part in the design of automotive covering parts stamping die.The traditional design method of wedge mechanism has some problems, such as poor efficiency, high cost, low application level in the parametric design and single data management. These problems affect the design technical level of the automotive covering parts stamping die directly. The research was based on SolidWorks?Visual Basic and Microsoft Access software, achieving parametric design of the typical wedge mechanism by two different methods: configuration and secondary development technology.Build the slide base part family with parameter combination and structure size. The VB software combined with the SolidWorks API,using the program and dimension driven to achieve the secondary development parametric designs of the five parts: block, sliding metal sheets, driving block, slider and reset metal sheets, and achieve the automatic assembly of the wedge mechanism.Exploiting some interfaces of human and machine to create the parts automatically by the form design functions of VB.Building the parameter database by the Access database management systems, the interface can reference the size parameters and set up the parts automatically by VB being joint with the Access database. The study achieved the parametric design and made the data base effective management and sharing. It has the positive roles not only in shortening the design cycle of the wedge mechanism parts, but also in improving efficiency and reducing cost of the research.
