Floods are one of the top 10 natural disasters facing the world today.Rainstorms,mountain torrents,tsunamis and Storm surges can cause floods.Due to the fast velocity and the large volume of the flood,its enormous power often wreaks havoc on the affected areas,bringing huge loss of human life and property.The flood inundation simulation is an important technical means to determine the range and the depth of the flood inundation area,thus effectively preventing the potential flooding hazard and quickly giving rescue guidance recommendations after the flood disaster.The east part of Honghu flood storage area is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.The hydrological conditions here is complex and changeable.In this paper,DEM is used to research the flood inundation.It is of great practical value for flood evaluation and prediction in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River to simulate the flood inundation in this area.Starting from the principle of digital elevation model(DEM),this paper discusses the expression and acquisition method of DEM,and divides flood inundation into two basic types: "active inundation" and "passive inundation" according to the digital elevation model.Then analyzed the method of the imminent inversion by cubage which based on the D8 algorithm to obtain the volume of the flood according to the given height of flood and to obtain the height of flood according to the given volume.Discusses the method and technology of flood inundation analysis and simulation by using spatial management and analysis correlation function of ArcGIS software system.In the end,the SRTM1 DEM data of the east Honghu flood storage area are used to simulate and calculate the flood inundation area,flood inundation water level and flood inundation volume.The experimental results provide a scientific basis for flood disaster assessment of the east block of Honghu flood storage area.
