As the basic unit of city,block is one of the most important design elements in urban design.The form of urban blocks directly determines the quality of urban space and people's urban life.Since 1990,with the development of China's economic construction,great changes have taken place in urban blocks in China.Among them,the closed streets represented by residential areas have become the mainstream of block construction in China.The single mechanical functional zoning of closed Street Districts clearly separates the living,working and living,and separates the districts from the cities in space,resulting in increasingly prominent urban and social problems.Therefore,relevant scholars began to reflect on the relationship between the city and the block,and to study and discuss the structure and form of the block.Among them,the "small block,dense road network" model advocated by the open block has a good relationship with the city in structure and form,which provides a rich and supplementary model for block construction in China.In this context,this paper takes the block form as the research object,focusing on the relationship between the urban block form and the urban system,taking the residential areas occupying the largest amount of urban construction as the block type of intervention study,and studies the problem of "open block design".Through literature review and research,field investigation and case analysis,the design principles and Strategies of open blocks are summarized,and the relevant strategies proposed in this paper are applied and validated by the empirical study of "Urban Design of North Xinjiang Port Area of Tianjin Port".In order to enrich and supplement the construction of block theory in our country,and provide theoretical reference for relevant practice.Firstly,in the introduction,taking the current block construction in China as the background,this paper expounds the research background,research purpose and research methods,and defines the research object and scope.In the second chapter,through combing the evolution of block morphology in China and the West and analyzing the social environment behind it,the interrelationship between block morphology and the specific era environment and historical background is elaborated to illustrate the necessity and urgency of "open block" under the current urban context in China.In the third chapter,through the analysis and investigation of typical cases of open blocks,the design methods and design background are analyzed,and the similarities and differences between Chinese and Western open blocks in element characteristics and construction background are compared.At the same time,combined with the author's practical experience of open blocks,summarizes the practical dilemma of open blocks in China.In the fourth chapter,based on the case analysis of the third chapter,the design principles and Strategies of open blocks are summarized and summarized.The fifth chapter,through the "Tianjin Port North Xinjiang Port Area Urban Design",carries on the application and the empirical analysis to the design strategy.Finally,this paper puts forward the prospects for the practice of open blocks in China.
