At present, the mode of urban renewal in China is gradually changing from the large-scale demolition and large-scale construction which pursues efficiency to the micro-transformation which focuses on comprehensive benefits. As a carrier of urban life and cultural memory, the protection and regeneration of traditional historical blocks are also a sustainable strategy for urban development. With the rise of cultural and creative industries in various countries, the benefits of their comprehensive promotion of urban development are considered as one of the effective ways to drive the regeneration of old cities.China's major cities are also trying to introduce cultural and creative industries into traditional historic districts to promote urban regeneration. Many practices have achieved some results, but there are also some problems such as lack of impetus for development, excessive commercialization, and neglect of the connotation of historical blocks. As early as the 1990 s,Taiwan started the exploration and practice of promoting urban regeneration with cultural and creative industries, and accumulated rich experience over the years.Under such a background, this paper attempts to analyze the regeneration experience of traditional historical blocks under the promotion of cultural and creative industry in Taiwan, and summarize the reconstruction design methods under the influence of its development mode,so as to provide reference for the renewal of similar traditional historical blocks in mainland China. This paper is divided into six chapters:The first chapter introduces the research motivation and purpose, the definition of the concept, and a brief review of the related topics. The second chapter is the theoretical basis of this paper, which studies and analyzes the characteristics of cultural and creative industry and the renewal characteristics of traditional historical blocks. In addition,it analyzes the adaptability of the mutual combination from the interaction between the two.Based on literature research and field research and interviews, chapter three reviews the overall development of Taiwan's cultural and creative industry in promoting the regeneration of traditional historical blocks, and systematically summarizes the supporting mechanism of its regeneration model, which is characterized by the government's guidance of the in-depth participation of the civil power, the small-scale gradual implantation of the cultural and creative industry, and the self-organization and repair of the civil community. The fourth chapter first analyzes the reconstruction requirements and design elements of the reuse oftraditional historical blocks for cultural and creative industries.Secondly, through induction and analysis, combined with literature and field research data, this chapter systematically sorted out the spatial renovation design methods at the block and the architectural in the relevant practice cases in Taiwan, and summarized that the methods are generally characterized by softness and diversification. The fifth chapter introduces the case study, through the field investigation, interviews, literature inquiry,in-depth study of two typical cases——Shennong street Tainan and Hamasen kaohsiung, this paper analyzes its renewal mode, industrial characteristics, transformation design methods and positive and negative effects,to makes a supplementary argument to the previous summary. Finally, the sixth chapter combined with the development background of the mainland, and puts forward some inspirations from the experience of Taiwan from the two aspects of renewal mode and spatial transformation strategy,in order to provide references for relevant researches and practices in mainland China.
