A Comparative Study On The Space Form Of Traditional Chinese And Western Residential Courtyard Houses

As the most important type of architecture,residential buildings occupy an important position in human production and life.Courtyard-style residential space is the most typical type of space with research value in residential buildings.Chinese culture has a history of thousands of years,and courtyard-style residential buildings have maintained their former form and culture in the long river of this time,which shows that this spatial form is suitable for China’s geographical environment and meets the living needs of our people.However,in the west,which is geographically separated from China by vast oceans,courtyard-style residential space is also the main residential building,which is worth studying and analyzing.Therefore,this thesis will take the space form of courtyard-style residence in traditional Chinese and western dwellings as the main research object,and make a comparative study on its development history and space form design.Among them,the space form design is deeply studied to find out the similarities and differences,and finally the goal of learning and applying can be realized.This paper is divided into four chapters: The first chapter is the introduction,which discusses the research background,research status at home and abroad,research purpose and significance,definition of relevant concepts and research scope,analysis of research contents and methods,theoretical framework,etc.The second chapter is an overview of the development of traditional Chinese and western residential courtyard houses.This paper sorts out the development ofthe space form of courtyard houses in Chinese and western traditional houses respectively,and divides the period from pre-Qin to Ming and Qing dynasties in China and from ancient Greece and ancient Rome to neo-classical period in the west into five periods to find out the space form of courtyard houses in each period.The third chapter is the similarities and differences of the space form design of Chinese and western traditional residential courtyard houses.The third chapter is the most core part of this paper.Firstly,it studies the causes of the differences in the space form of traditional residential courtyard houses,compares them from four aspects: historical and geographical background,cultural and economic background,space and aesthetic concepts,ethics and religious thoughts,and draws out the similarities and differences in their space form,architectural styles,functions and functions,and decorative structures.The fourth chapter is about the influence of the comparison of the space form of Chinese and western traditional residential courtyard houses on the modern architectural design.This paper discusses the inheritance of the space form of Chinese traditional residential courtyard houses from modern architectural design,the reference of modern architectural design to the space form of western traditional residential courtyard houses,and the development trend of the space form of courtyard houses in modern architectural design.Through the above research,the author hopes to combine the advantages of traditional Chinese and western architectural culture with modern architectural design,and provide some ideas for the new style and direction of modernarchitectural design in China.
