From the emergence of the first train in the early 19 th century to today's development,the railway bear witness to the whole process of human entering a modern society.Nowadays,with improvement of transportation technology,the railway transportation has continuously reduced,and at the same time,as modern cities expand,some railways originally located in periphery have been included in the urban scope.However,these railways have gradually been abandoned for various reasons.In recent years,as a result of rapid population growth,people's higher demand for the quantity and quality of infrastructure has increasingly posed pressure to Wuhan municipal government.The rarely-used old section northern Wuhan-Jiujiang will be abandoned soon.Therefore,to lessen the burden of old city area,the Wuhan municipal government initiated a new approach to urban expansion for ecology balance in 2009,and started relocating of the Northern loop and the combat readiness wharf.Based on the design of the linear landscape belt for the protection of railway cultural heritage,this dissertation investigates,analyzes,and summarizes from three aspects,the regional positioning of the northern loop of Wuhan-Jiujiang Railway,the relationship among railway heritage,its surroundings and characteristics,as well as cultural elements.As a cultural theme for the construction of landscape belts,relying on the humanities and natural resources of abandoned railway sites,railway cultural symbols have integrated history and people's memory in landscape design,thus making railway culture and urban development interconnected.This paper studies similar cases at home and abroad,and summaries precious experience.It is hoped that the Wuhan-Jiujiang Railway will be fully utilized,and multiple built-up areas and development areas along the line will be connected in chains to create more economic and cultural value of the surrounding part.
