China’s Buddhist architecture is affected by a lot of factors. However, most of the current scholars’ relevant researches only focus on the status quo of ancient Chinese Buddhist architecture. The traditional theoretical analysis of the Buddhist space is always stagnant in the perceptual and qualitative perspective, lacking rational and quantitative analysis. However, the research of the syntax space theory provides a quantitative method to define the prototype of the religious space structure. The first half of this paper is based on the syntax space theory, which transforms the traditional Buddhist space from the space structure described by vague language into a tangible data model which can carry out statistical comparative analysis, such as the comparative analysis of convex space, field of view, integration degree, control value, and the regression analysis of comprehensibility. This provides a new perspective for us to study the Buddhist space more objectively. The space syntax theory provides us with a more intuitive method to analyze the reasons behind these differences and converts these uncertain spatial forms in traditional Buddhist space into quantifiable architectural space language. In the second half of this paper, the author makes a q uantitative comparative analysis of Shuiyue daochang and Kaifu temple with the theory of space syntax, and meanwhile provides a standard for the evaluation of our contemporary Buddhist architectural practice.Based on the syntax space,we can either analyze whether the excellent contemporary Buddhist architecture practices have borrowed the spatial layout form of traditional Buddhist architecture in the spatial structure,or what changes have taken place in the spatial layout form of modern architecture, all of which will be measured by specific data and indicators.Syntax space provides a quantitative and visible analytical model for studying the spatial structure of Buddhism.
