Ming Dynasty,as another powerful Dynasty in Chinese history after Han and Tang Dynasties, had a vast territory. On this basis,it formed a perfect military defense system.Especially in the northern region, the Great Wall was the main body, and the castles on both sides were multi-cascade defense modes, which constituted a solid defense line of Chinese agricultural civilization against the invasion of northern nomadic peoples and provided a strong guarantee for production and life in Central Plains. With the development of the times, the military needs of castles with the main function of garrison defense have gradually decreased and disappeared. Most of them have evolved into settlements where residents live together. However, the pattern of castles and the form of dwellings left behind by the settlements have recorded a period of history as a material carrier, which is of great significance to the relevant cultural and historical research.Professor Zhao Zhifeng, the author's mentor, has been engaged in the research and protection of traditional villages in Beijing for a long time. This paper is based on the National Natural Science Foundation of "Research on the Development Model of County Villages and Towns System Based on Production-Life-Ecology Difference"(Project No.51578009),and the Beijing Social Science Foundation's key project "Research on the Value Assessment and Protection System of Beijing Traditional Villages from the Regional Perspective"(Project No.18YTA002)and Beijing Natural Science Foundation project "Beijing Traditional Villages Community Conservation Research Based on Genealogy Construction"(Project number: 8192003).Taking the defensive settlements along the Ming Great Wall in Northwest Beijing as the research object,10 castles with better preservation and research significance were comprehensively analyzed and selected.Based on field survey and mapping, relevant history was consulted.Data archives records, comprehensive analysis of settlement pattern, development process and preservation status, spatial restoration of settlement pattern using mapping software, comparison and summary of its characteristics and types, combing the problems of different types of settlement in the process of development and expansion, based on which analysis and formulation of Castle sites, historical buildings, historical resources, self However, the principles and methods of protection and utilization of environment, folk culture and other aspects are finally applied to the protection and utilization planning of Changyucheng Village,Changping District,Beijing,to propose solutions and methods for the future protection and development of the village.Through the research on the protection and utilization of defensive settlements along the Ming Great Wall in Northwest Beijing, this paper further supplements the historical development and existing situation of settlements, and also provides a research foundation for the future development and implementation of the general plan for the protection of the Great Wall in Beijing.
