With the decline of China's auto sales,the order quantity of auto parts enterprises which are closely related to the auto industry has also declined.Due to the continuous improvement of human and material cost,the competition among auto parts enterprises is increasingly fierce.To gain more benefits and improve market competitiveness,enterprises need to improve and optimize the assembly line to balance the assembly line,thus reducing production costs and improving production efficiency.The paper expounds the basic theory of assembly line balance and the method needed to balance the assembly line.On this foundation,it takes the assembly line of SAIC Group navigation mainframe produced by TB company as the research object,it introduces the process fl ow of the assembly line,measures the standard operation time of each station on the assembly line through the time research method,and finds out the problems of assembly line imbalance.Then,the tools and methods,such as mountain plot and man-machine operation diagram,are to find out the reasons for the imbalance of the assembly line.There are three points: the unbalanced distribution of station elements,the uncoordinated operation of the man-machine and the uneconomical operation of the employees.Besides,according to the reasons of assembly line imbalance,"5W1H" questioning techniques,human-machine operation analysis,"ECRS" principles and action economy principle in industrial engineering are used to optimize the balance of the assembly line.However,after the overall optimization,it is found that the distribution of operation elements for the assembly line is still unreasonable,and the operation elements need to be optimized again.Because the method of Industrial Engineering is easy to be affected by personal subjectivity when adjusting the operation elements of the station elements,and the work efficiency is low,a heuristic algorithm is proposed to reallocate the optimized operation elements.Finally,after twice optimization,the balance of the assembly line has been greatly improved.The balance rate of the assembly line has been increased from 52.5% to 87.1%,which reaches a good level of the assembly line.Moreover,the production efficiency of the assembly line has been improved.The smoothness index of the assembly line has been reduced from 34.1 to 7.3,and the standard working hours of each station are closer than before.The bottleneck working hours have been reduced from the initial 64.5 seconds to 46 seconds,which meets the production demand.In addition,compared with the initial assembly line,4 stations and 3 operators are reduced;man-machine operation is more coordinated,and production cost is reduced.
