The "World Cultural Heritage Convention Draft Implementation Code" proposes that the best way to protect historic buildings is to continue to use them.Historical architecture is an important part of the development of a city.It is a witness of history and a promoter of development.With the continuous development of social economy and the continuous change of people's lifestyles,the reuse of historical buildings has become an important part of urban development.However,due to the special historical and cultural nature of the buildings,there is a discord between the old and the new.The historical building should not be used mechanizedly,it should be integrated into the modern society with a special historical place spirit.Therefore,we need to find a new way of thinking and methods to make historical buildings develop in a more creative direction.This article starts with the concept of "new and old" symbiosis,and aims to re-use the traditional residence of Tujia nationality in Enshi.First,it analyzes the concept of "new and old" symbiosis,and then summarizes the Enshi Tujia traditional houses.Its residential buildings have a long history,are very local and well preserved,and have high research and reuse value.At present,the reuse of the traditional residences of Tujia nationality in Enshi is mainly based on residence and homestay renovation.It only reflects the practical value and economic value of residential houses,but traditional residential buildings should show the unique qualities of their spiritual places and allow culture to inherit and develop through space.Therefore,on the basis of the previous analysis,the research on the old and new symbiosis reuse design of the Enshi Tujia traditional folk house cultural space is carried out,and the design methods are summarized from the aspects of architectural ontology,new and old spaces,and environmental integration,which is the Pengjiazhai folk culture The renovation design practice of the exhibition hall provides a theoretical basis.The original exhibition hall was in a semi-abandoned state due to unreasonable reuse by local authorities.In the face of unsuccessfulness,the author hopes to reuse the old and new symbiosis design to protect and develop the local traditional residences of the Tujia nationality,and realize the symbiosis of architectural use value and cultural value.The transformation design uses methods such as space creation,texture categorization,and material reuse to retain and inherit the characteristics of the local Tujia traditional dwellings,so that the modern characteristics can develop new meanings in the traditional dwelling space,and play a positive role in the local cultural inheritance and architectural continuation The role of promotion.This article focuses on the protection and development of traditional residences of Tujia nationality in Enshi,researches on new and old symbiotic reuse design strategies,and carries out design practice with the renovation of Pengjiazhai Folk CultureExhibition Hall,hoping to provide new ideas for the reuse of traditional residences in Tujia.
