Economic Benefits Of Sheep Production In Pastoral Areas

The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has abundant grassland resources,and relying on its natural resource endowment,the mutton sheep industry has developed rapidly.In recent years,excessive use of grasslands has led to serious negative externalities.In order to protect the ecological environment,Inner Mongolia implemented grassland ecological protection award and subsidy policy in 2011.With the implementation of the policies,some of the policy results appear to be a change in the economics of sheep production in pastoral areas,which are mainly reflected in two aspects.One is the increase in the production cost of mutton sheep in the pastoral areas due to the positive externalities of ecological protection,and the other is that the scale efficiency of mutton sheep production is limited by the ecological environment and cannot reach the optimal scale.The increasingly fierce market competition also has a great impact on the economic efficiency of sheep production in pastoral areas.As a competitive industry in the pastoral areas,the economic benefits of sheep production are related to the livelihoods of millions of traditional herdsmen whose production is dominated by sheep.Build economic analysis framework for sheep production in pastoral areas.Combine the economic growth theory,cost-benefit theory and input-output theory.Apply field research method,descriptive statistics,contrast analysis,SFA,DEA and other methods.Starting from the present situation of sheep production,we use survey data to analyze the reasonsfor the lower economic benefits of sheep production,to find new ways to increase the income of herdsmen,and put forward practical solutions.The study found that the fundamental reason for the low economic efficiency of mutton sheep production in pastoral areas is the continuous increase in labor costs,forage materials costs,depreciation of fixed assets,and the inefficiency of technical efficiency in production technology efficiency.The direct reason is that it has failed to realize the high quality sell well price of mutton sheep.The rise in production costs has a lot to do with ecological protection policies.The increase in production costs has a lot to do with the externality of ecological protection,which results in a partial loss of economic benefits for herdsmen.The direct reason for the low technical efficiency is that the scale efficiency is constrained by the deteriorating ecological environment.Therefore,to improve the economic efficiency of mutton sheep production in pastoral areas,we must find another way.First,we should develop a cooperative economy,reduce production costs and improve the economic efficiency of sheep production.Second,we can achieve high quality and high prices for mutton,and build featured brand for grassland mutton sheep.Third,to improve the pure technical efficiency of herdsman production and carry out moderate scale farming.The government will increase the strength of grassland ecological protection awards and ensure the herdsmen’s living standards in order to realize the harmonious development of the ecological environment,social stability and economic growth in pastoral areas.
