Based on Ulmus pumila‘Jinye' and Ulmus macrocarpa Hance as experimental materials, the reproduction techniques for softwood cutting were systematically studied in the aspects of concentrations of exogenous hormone, length of cuttings, substrates, cutting positions and soaking time, and in order to provide experimental basis for wide-scale seedling cultivation raising. The main results are summarized as below:(1)In the experiments of different IBA concentrations, the 1500 mg/L IBA solution can acquire the best rooting ability of Ulmus pumila‘Jinye' cuttings.the rooting rate and the rooting effect index were 70.83% and 0.67 respectively. But the rooting ability of Ulmus macrocarpa Hance cuttings and treated with 500 mg/L IBA solution was the best. The rooting rate and the root effect index were 69.17% and 0.37,respectively.(2)The treatment results of different cutting length were as follows: using the 10 cm cutting of Ulmus pumila‘Jinye' and Ulmus macrocarpa Hance acquire the finest preferable cutting propagation technical conditions.(3)In the comprehensive test of Ulmus pumila‘Jinye' and Ulmus macrocarpa Hance softwood cutting, the average rooting numbers are significantly affected by substrates and soaking time of rooting powder in the three factors: substrates, cutting positions and soaking time.Substrates have significant effects on the softwood cutting rooting effect indexes of Ulmus pumila‘Jinye'e and Ulmus macrocarpa Hance. The results showed that the interaction has a significant effect on rooting characters of Ulmus pumila‘Jinye',but has no significant effect on Ulmus macrocarpa Hance. The rooting characteristics of different treatments were evaluated by subordinate function method, the treatment 6 of Ulmus pumila‘Jinye' is the finest preferable cutting propagation technical conditions(selecting cuttings of the middle, and soaking 30 min with the 500 mg/L IBA in substrates with perlite: the turfy soil compound is 6:4,the rooting rate and the rooting effect index were 57.5% and 1.43 respectively. The optimal combination treatment of Ulmus macrocarpa Hance was the treatment 8(selecting cuttings of the bottom, and soaking 5 min with the 500 mg/L IBA in substrates with perlite: the turfy soil compound is 6:4 compound),the rooting rate and the rooting effect index were 71.67% and 0.28 respectively.
