There are five important species of termites in Changsah city,they are Coptotermes formosanus,Reticulitermes flaviceps,R.chinensis,Odontotermes formosanus,and Macrotermes barney.Occurrence regularity of these termites species was investigated by using underground termite monitoring bait systems(i.e.,Sentricon(?),Extena(?)and Ye Kang(?)underground termite monitoring bait systems).The control efficiency of the above-mentioned bait systems on Reticulitermes was studied.The results were as follows:1 Occurrence of termites in Changsha cityIn order to enhance our capability to manage termite in Changsha city,the occurrence regularity of Coptotermes,Reticulitermes and Odontotermes was studied by investigating the trapping efficiency of underground termite monitoring bait systems including Sentricon(?),Extena(?)and Ye Kang underground termite monitoring bait systems was compared.The results showed that Coptotermes,Reticulitermes and Odontotermes termites were widespread in Changsha city.In addition,March,April,September and October were critical periods to control termites.The activity peak period of Coptotermes termite was from April the corresponding peak periods for Reticulitermes termite were May,March,April,September and October,and the activity peak period for Odontotermes termite was form September to October.2 Toxicity effects of different baits against Reticulitermes chihensisSentricon(?),Extena(?)and Ye Kang underground termite monitoring bait systems,exhibited excellent toxicity effect against R.chinensis,and Sentricon(?)and Extena?underground termite monitoring bait systems proved to be more effective.At the 45th day after treatment,the mortality of R.chinensis,which was led to by Sentricon(?)and Extena(?)bait systems,was above 50%,and the mortality which was led to by Ye Kang bait systems reached to 40%.At the 55th day after treatment for Sentricon(?)and Extena(?)bait systems,the respective mortality of the termites was 95.3%and 96.0%,there was no significant difference,but they significantly higher than the mortality(65.3%),which was led to by Ye Kang bait systems.3 Effectiveness of Sentricon(?),Extena(?)and Ye Kang underground termite monitoring bait systems on ReticulitermesTermites could be trapped and killed by Sentricon(?),Extena(?)and Ye Kang underground termite monitoring bait systems.The trapping rate of Extena(?)was 39%which was higher than 34%of Sentricon(?)and 19%of Ye Kang bait station.There was no significant difference between Sentricon(?)and Extena(?)underground termite monitoring bait systems,which was significantly higher than Ye Kang underground termite monitoring bait systems(P<0.05)in March,April,September,October.However,the killing rate of Sentricon-was 56.1%,higher than 51.3%of Extena(?)and 44.7%of Ye Kang,and there was no significant difference between Sentricon(?)and Extena(?)underground termite monitoring bait systems,which was significantly higher than Ye Kang underground termite monitoring bait systems(P<0.05)from April to December.
