It will cause environmental pollution and endanger human and animal's health using chemical pesticide to control termites.As a means of termite control,termite monitoring and control technology is outstanding with environmental friendliness and lasting effects.With the concept of integrated pest management(IPM)deeply rooted in people's minds,the technology becomes more and more important in the field of termite control.In the monitoring and control system,bait plays an important role in attracting termites and carrying poison.Therefore,its quality is directly related to the effects of monitoring and control.As a termite bait,cellulose has the advantages of good palatability and broad spectrum for attracting termites.So it is suitable for long-term termite monitoring and control.In this study,we choosed Coptotermes formosanus as test termite and microcrystalline cellulose as bait matrix,explored the processing craft of termite block bait by adding various adhesives in order to obtain an ideal termite block bait product.The details are as follows:(1)The shaping effect of block baits which were made by cooked glutinous rice flour,dextrin,sesbania gum,gelatin,carrageenan,chitosan,polyvinyl alcohol(PVA),sodium silicate,melamine formaldehyde resin(MF)and microcrystalline cellulose were tested in this study.The results showed that the hardness(Shore D)of the block baits which were made by 20%,40%dose of dextrin;50%,100%dose of melamine formaldehyde resin;10%,20%,40%dose of sesbania gum,carrageenan,chitosan and gelatin;10%,50%,100%dose of polyvinyl alcohol and sodium silicate was significantly higher than CK.Therefore,these block baits were better shaped.(2)In this study,the water resistance of selected block baits was evaluated.The results showed that the 24h water absorption rate and the water absorption thickness expansion rate of the block baits with 50%,100%dose of polyvinyl alcohol,50%dose of sodium silicate,50%,100%dose of melamine formaldehyde resin were significantly lower.And these block baits could be kept in water for more than 15d without collapse.The result indicated that these block baits had better water resistance.(3)The feeding preference of selected block baits was tested by choice feeding test and no-choice feeding test on Coptotermes formosanus under laboratory conditions.The results showed that the consumption rate of block bait was significantly decreased after treatment with 50%,100%dose of melamine formaldehyde resin(MF);50%,100%dose of polyvinyl alcohol(PVA)and 50%dose of sodium silicate.The reason may be that these adhesives had repellent effects on Coptotermes formosanus or made the palatability of cellulose bait get worse.Therefore,further improvement and research were necessary to enhance the application effect of the block bait.In summary,this study had clarified that certain adhesives and processing craft could promote the shaping effect of cellulose baits and improve their water resistance.In addition,this study provided certain technical support for the development of market-valued termite block bait product,and laid a certain foundation for the standardized production of termite bait.
