Liriodendron chinense(Hemsl)Sarg.is a national rare and endangered plant species.It is a fast-growing tree species with straight trunk and excellent wood properties,which can be used as superior wood materials for plastic board,high-grade furniture and papermaking.In order to screen the excellent provenances of L.chinense suitable for Guangxi,six geographical provenances of L.chinense collected from the whole country(Jinping of Yunnan,YN;Liping of Guizhou,GZ;Wuyi Mountain of Fujian,FJ;Zhejiang Anji,ZJ;Guangxi Quanzhou,GX;Lu Mountain of Jiangxi,JX)were introduced to the three locations of Guangxi province,including Gaofeng forest farm,Nanning arboretum and Xianshui forest farm.The provenance test results showed that:1.The preserving rates of different provenances of L.chinense were significantly different in three test sites.The survival rate of all tested provenances in Xianshui forest farm in Northern Guangxi was significantly higher than that in the two test sites(Nanning arboretum and Gaofeng forest farm located at the central Guangxi,Nanning).Among these six provenances,both GZ and YN provenances had higher survival rates in the three test sites.2.With the increase of tree age,the variation and phenotypic differentiation between and within all provenances increased gradually.The average tree height,DBH and volume increased linearly.The results of variance analysis(ANOVA)showed that there were significant differences in tree height,DBH and volume of different provenances in all the test sites except Nanning arboretum.The multipoint ANOVA showed that there was significant interaction between provenance and location.3.The superior provenances and individuals in three test sites were selected for the purpose of timber forest culture.The results indicated that the JP provenance shows the best growth,and the genetic gains of main traits were 9.57%of tree height,13.78%of DBH and 33.96%of volume.The primary sources of excellent individuals are FJ,GZ,GX and YN.4.The correlation analysis of provenance growth with origin longitude and latitude and climate factors showed that the growth of different provenances of L.chinense was negatively correlated with the longitude and latitude of the provenance,and the correlation coefficient with latitude was significantly greater than longitude.5.Cluster analysis divided the six provenances into four clusters.The growth performance of YN and FJ are the best,GZ and GX are the second,AJ was poor and JX has the worst growth performance.
