Cultivated land is a basic resource that human beings depend on for survival.China's protection system of cultivated land with "Requisition-compensation Balance" as its core needs urgent adjustment. In practice, there are unrealized actual goals of "total dynamic balance" that lead to imbalances in cultivated land quality and ecology. The "trinity" protection concept of cultivated land quantity, quality, and ecology pointed out the direction for the protection of cultivated land in the new era,and it is important to establish and improve the compensation mechanism of cultivated land.In the context of ecological civilization, conducting ecological compensation and zoning research on cultivated land is the basic work to establish a market-oriented and diversified ecological compensation mechanism, thereby promoting fair and coordinated development across regions. This paper started from the service functions of cultivated land ecosystem and the ecological values of cultivated land, reviewed the domestic and foreign concepts of ecological footprint, ecosystem service value, and ecological compensation theories. And the paper attempted to constructs ecological footprints and cross-region ecological compensation models of cultivated land.Taking the Yangtze River Delta region as the research target,41 prefecture-level cities were selected as the object of empirical analysis. The three-dimensional ecological footprint paradigm was used to evaluate the ecological status of cultivated land.Ecological surplus and ecological deficit indicators were used to determine the ecological status of regional cultivated land resources, and the concept of footfrint depth was introduced to represent human occupation of the natural capital stock of cultivated land.Based on the natural attributes of cultivated land, this paper calculated the value of cultivated land ecosystem services, and selected economic indicators such as Engel coefficient and GDP per capita to adjust the coefficients,so as to calculate the total amount and priority of cultivated land ecological compensation in cities. Finally, combined with the total amount and priority of compensation, ecological compensation zoning of cultivated land in the Yangtze River Delta was carried out,and corresponding enlightenment was got.On this basis, the Yangtze River Delta was taken as an example to carry out regional studies on ecological compensation and found that:(1)Ecological footprint research can reflect the difference between supply and demand of regional natural resources, and provide theoretical basis for ecological compensation to alleviate the imbalance between ecological use and development rights between regions. The extended three-dimensional ecological footprint model reflects the actual consumption of cultivated land ecological productivity, and footprint depth expands the horizon from the flow to the stock dimension.(2)The overall cultivated land ecology in the Yangtze River Delta showed a small surplus,Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province were better than Shanghai and Zhejiang Province. The distribution status of the carrying capacity in city-level was uneven, but the ecological differences in cultivated land tended to narrow, and the ecological carrying status had improved.(3)Jiangsu Province and Anhui Province were the main "zones to accept ecological compensation",Shanghai and Zhejiang Province were "zones to offer ecological compensation",while the internal heterogeneity of Anhui Province was significant. The total amount of compensation in the region had shown an increasing trend, and there was a overall trend of ecological consumption turning into ecological services. Finally, the corresponding enlightenment was proposed according to the zoning of ecological compensation of cultivated land: first, reduce regional disparities by internal adjustments and counterpart cooperation;second, encourage multi-participation and explore market-based compensation operation mechanisms;third, diversify compensation methods and promote regional factors Flow;fourth, the integration area is the driving force behind the multi-point drive, and finally form a puzzle-type market-oriented and diversified cultivated land ecological compensation mechanism.
