Objective:To compare the accuracy rates of the two different approach superolateral approach and anterolateral approach. Also to assess whether sodium hyaluronate resulted in pain relief.Additionally to determine which methods produce painful experience to the patients. Methods:All cases were the patients of Guang Xi Medical University from the department of bone and joints and Trauma and Hand Surgery. They were diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis and had received sodium hyluronate injection each week for5 weeks from two different approaches.Patients were given Visual Analogue Scale for pain to score their intensity of the pain during 1st week before the injection and the 3rd and 6th week of injection. Results:There were 72 patients(n= 72,Male=41,Female=31,? 50years= 40 and50>=years =32)were involved in final study. No significant difference were detected in any of the approach between any age group or between sexes(p>0.05).Patients feel slightly more pain while injecting from superolateral approach but result wasn't statistically significant(P>0.05).All patients felt significant relief from their painful symptoms after injecting with sodium hyluronate(p<0.05).Conclusions:Previous studies have concluded different approach produce different results, and superolateral approach produce highest accuracy rate than anteriolateral approach. This study shows that both approach have same effect on clinical symptoms. Our research highlighted that the experience of the clinician play a major role in the outcome of the intra articular injection.
