Objective:To compare and analyze the body composition parameters of the neonates including the anthropometric measurements, skinfold thickness and ratio delivered by mother with gestational diabetes mellitus(GDM)with those of non-gestational diabetic mellitus mother without any other complications. Methods:The study was conducted on 32 IDMs(8 males and 24 females)and 31 neonates from control group(17 males and 14 females)of non-gestational diabetic mellites mother without any other complications.Variables taken in the study were head circumference, chest circumference, waist circumference, hip circumference, waist to hip ratio, triceps skinfold, subscapular skinfold, suprailiac skinfold, subscapular to triceps ratio,(subscapular+suprailiac)to triceps ratio.BMI and body fat percentage.Anthropometric measurements were obtained within 24 to 48 hours after birth.SPSS 22.0 was used for the statistical analysis. We calculated the data using 3 parametric tests, namely Independent t-test,Pearson's ?2 tests and Single Linear Regression test.Level of Significance(p-value)less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.ResultsA total of 32 IDMs and neonates from control group were enrolled.Test results showed that BMI(p=0.013),body fat percentage(p=0.001),waist circumference(p=0.000),hip circumference(p=0.001),subscapular to triceps ratio(p=0.013)and(subscapular+suprailiac)to triceps ratio(p=0.003)were found to be higher in IDMs than those of infants with in control group, statistical significance(p<0.05).In IDMs group.the triceps skinfold(r=0.633,r=0.601),subscapular skinfold(r=0.438,r=0.427)and suprailiac skinfold(r=0.671,r=0.711)are more related with BMI and body fat percentage.Conclusions1.Waist circumference,Hip circumference, subscapular skinfold and suprailiac skinfold were higher in the IDMs than those of infants of control group.2.Triceps skinfold, subscapular skinfold, suprailliac skinfold and anthorpometric measurements were more related to body fat percentage and BMI,and better assessment of body fat composition for IDM.
